Default Hole in engine block?

So I bought this GSR with a hole in the block, I'm planning to do the Lsvtec with this. However I looked at the oil dip stick today and oil is still full.......If there was a hole in the block wouldn't any oil be all gone? Would there be hole that I can see from outside (under the car)?

I tried to start the engine but the starter would not even make a noise.......

I'm new to b-engines so help me out. lol

Also, if the engine threw a rod is the head still ok?

I'm pulling the head, I guess we'll see.

if the engine threw a rod theres a good chance it smacked the head pretty damn hard.

and if hteres a hole in the block and theres no oil coming out of it thats strange... it must be on the water sides..... in which case that engine musta really blew up hard

Well....I opened up the head and piston number 1 is cracked, moves freely up and down. The head itself does not seem to be damaged. The block seems to have no holes from the top, coolant with coolant and oil with oil.

I'm going to open up the bottom from the oil pan.

Sounds like a rod broken on piston 1? The piston head has 2 hairline cracks. I wonder if I can still use the block.....

Pull the pistons and check. if you need to, patch the hole with some bubble gum.

All 4 quarts of oil sit in the oil pan, thus it wont climb its way up 6 inches to leak out the hole.

Just to be safe send the head to the machine shop. Get them to plane it straight and check it over. Always worth the $$ and saves you time in the long run.

Found the hole, right behide the A/C compressor. So the LS/Vtec will begin. Also one of the valves will not seat/seal, I'll take it to a machine shop and have them take it out etc.

Heres a pic:

Too bad you're not near dallas, I've got an LS block you could have for $50.

Its the one in calgary right? I paid $1700 CAD without the gauges. Paid $300 to tow it back up to Edmonton and another $150 to get a b18b block with pistons and rods etc. Did you think that was a good deal?

I'm doing a port and polish on the head right now, anyone know how to reseal the valve?

you will need new valve seals which are about $60 US for the OEM ones

and it is also a good idea to replace them becayse GSR's are notorious for bad valve seals and burning oil

Yea the one in calgary, id say u got it for a good price considering there are a decent amount of parts on it you can sell off or use. The body is in rough shape with that shitty paint job though, are you planning on trying to fix the car up?

GL with the build

Yeah I'm going to fix it up, looks like it going to be a lot of work with the engine and the body.

Piston #1 moved freely up and down, its down in that picture. I'm guessing the rod snapped.
