b16a2 in a 96 ex coupe
i just swapped a b16 into a non vtec 96 ex and was wondering what ecu i should use. Also the coolant fan wont turn on and neither the rpms or the speedometer arent working.
I already drove the car and it runs great.
I appreciate any comments. thanks

''96 - '97 Del Sol P30 ECU, JDM OBD2 P30 (JDM OBD2 ECUs will not communicate with a code reader, and will not pass emissions in some states.) or a P2T from a '99 - '00 Si (you will need to use an OBD2A to OBD2B conversion harness for that last ECU though. And as NOFX stated if its a US EX it should be Vtec.

as fas as i know, all EX's have a vtec. and in your 96 Ex coupe it should of had a D16Y8 engine which is Vtec

if i get the obd2a to obd2b harness, will i have to cancel out the abs control unit. cause the wires go to that unit first then from there to the ecu. and i already ahve the 99 si ecu, i think that would b more convinient.

Looks like on 6th gen Civics the DLC is fuse 43 under the hood. It also covers the dome light and trunk light. I believe the 12 volt socket is covered in the under dash fuse box.

so you pretty much have a 99-00 si swap. use an si ecu and just get a conversion harness from 2a to 2b. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by NOFX »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

wow...I have the same problem also. I have a 98 Civic DX..and I just recently put in a B16A2 OBD2B and Converted it to OBD1 and I'm running with a p28...and for some reason my mph nor my RPM Gauge are working...

I've heard most are on the 12 volt fuse too, but figured I'd check because I was pretty sure I'd seen it under the hood on these cars before.</TD></TR></TABLE>
when i worked for gm it was a common issue for the scan tool not to communicate b/c of a blown cigarette lighter fuse, i always keep that in the back of my head

Like someone else said on here I would get a 0BD2 to 0BD1 Jumper Harness and run a p28 ecu. As for the Speedo not working nor the RPM's thats weird. I'm sure if you look through past forums I garuntee some one else has had that problem and if you can't find anything just post it up and I'm sure some Honda guru will have the answer. I hope you enjoy your swap it's always a satisfying feeling when you're done
the ceiling light works, meaning that the fuse is ok. So my ecu is still not reading, but i found out why the rpms didnt work. in the 96 ex the wire for the rpms is in a different position (the connector on the driver side by the strut) that in the 99 si. a friend hooked a wire from on side to the other and they started to work. (even though it goes from 1k to 2k constantly when in neutral) im guessing the mph is the same. as for the ecu im going to try an obd2a to obd2b harness.

yup...I just did that too...It's the blue wire from the harness...I installed the blue wire from the engine harness to the other blue wire on the driver side fender/fire wall..and as soon as I did that, the RPM gauge started working.
Now I just gotta figure out how to work the damn speedometer now.
