Can you get to it with a needle nose vise grip. Put a piece of cloth
between it so you dont damage the key. Or you could get a new on for like 2 bux.

I tried pulling on it with vice grips while tapping it with a hammer/mallet. No dice.

Yeah, this is one of the few reasons that I didn't swap to an US OBD2 style oil pump for my swap (also, too cheap to buy a new one )

What'r you talkin about. Obd1 has a timing gear and a key too. Plus it's not like this is common, I've had them off twice before without any problems.

I finally got it out though. Took some serious heat + wd40 + pulling like hell.

Elbow grease, carb cleaner (for thickened grease/oil) or liquid wrench (for rust) and more elbow grease. I've also used a thin, wide screw driver to get behind the timing gear to help pry it off.

As a last resort, if it's rusted in you can carefully dissolve the rust a bit with muriatic acid (HCl) just keep it off you, your seals and aluminum parts. Use baking soda to neutralize the acid once it's all apart.

I'm here on this forum for a couple years and I still don't know what is an elbow grease I have even asked a friend of mine who lives in Canada but he didn't know the answer. Does it stand for lots of hard work or so?

Anyway- I don't think that using HCl is a good idea. Lots of kids here can harm themselves not knowing how dangerous it is. Better soak this with Coca Cola for some time

Yeah, but taking the timing gear off to take the OBD2 oil pump off to swap was annoying. Plus, who swaps in a used oil pump anyway?

And yes, two year old threads ftw

You guys have never heard of a puller, I see.

Go to harbor freight and get a GM Pitman arm puller. Soak the area with PB blaster, put the crank bolt back in, then use the Pitman arm puller to press on the bolt and pull on the exterior of the crank gear.

You can also use:

Chrysler/Mitsubishi crank puller
Ball joint removal tool
Generic claw puller
etc. .

I offered a solution. I am not your mother and I am not going to hold your hand or anyone else's. I also won't be held liable for morons using strong acid irresponsibly. All potentially harmful products have been gangbanged by a tag team of degenerate lawyers to protect everyone from themselves. If anyone uses HCl and can't follow the F%@kin' instructions and warnings on the package then they deserve to be blinded/burned.

Along the same lines I propose we protect the general populous from themsleves by confining everyone to their homes. Apparently just driving automobiles kills an average of 42000 people every year in the US. Sounds to me like we should all advocate not driving motorvehicles. They are a liablility. Our current administration should pioneer anti-motorvehicle legislation in an effort to quell unnecessary fatalities since the constituents are too stupid to think for themselves.

I'm not going to use HCl for a stuck crank key. And I'm not going to have my hand held by Pirate in any means

And I add my endorsement for banning vehicles on the roads and knives in our drawers.

The English are also one step ahead of us. They're trying to ban glass pint glasses to curtail injuries sustained from drunken pub fights. Very thoughtful of them. lol.
