Default Timing woes

OK so 90 civic hatch d15b1

Going 70 on interstate for some reason the woodruff key that holds the timing gear on snapped and spun the timing gear loose. Replaced timing gear everything seems to turn over fine and it has good compression so I think i got lucky with the valves.

By my understanding when installing the gear you bring the engine to tdc and put the gear on with "up" of course up and the 2 lines should be parallel with the head mating surface? I installed just like that and it wont start. It sounds like a timing issue when its turning over but I dont know where to go from here. Im used to there being a tab by the crank gear to check timing but there isnt anything there.

Can anybody give me some good advice here? Thanks in andvance for any help!

Ok so i found three little marcks on the crank pulley and the little arrow on the timing cover. Thats perfectly on when the timing gear is right at top and lines parallel to the mating surface. Now what? When it turns over it gives that little shake like it wants to start. ?????

the three little marks close together on the pulley are the ignition timing marks - you need to be lining up with the Top Dead Center mark which is a little ways to the right of the three marks, all by itself

ok thank you much for that. I went out and tried that and still nothing. That made me realize something. Ok so theres a slot in the cam is that or isnt it where your supposed to align the key on the gear with? I think I may have done that wrong. I was a little confused. I thought the key was a seperate piece that sit in the slot on the cam instead i guess its molded in the cam gear??? I think i pout it on wrong and that made the key smash so now i have to get another 50 dollar gear? is this correct? I didnt align the 2 was in a hurry not thinking.

ok so i checked again and the built in key is sitting in the slot on the cam. Reset everything as you said with the timing marks and it sounds closer to starting but still wont. Next option?

Ok i have no idea how im supposed to align the two with the belt on. Ive decided its impossible to get them exactly on. Ive tried every possible way and still failed. Its really close but not exact. It keeps saying advanced a few degrees. Anywayz it still wont start. Once i get someone to help me im gonna try messin with the spark timing a bit and see what happens. Anybody got any great ideas?
