ECU Mods, Chips and Rev Limiters
Ok... I started this thread in the integra forum and it didn't really take off. I Hoping someone in here might be able to help me out... Important data was at this.
EDIT : Not really needed to read this other thread...just though some would like some extra info...
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=231105
So Assuming I can run a OBD I ECU, which I believe I can, what route or info could one suggest when modding/chipping the ecu.
Recommended vendors? Is there a Chip I could install tune it to my particular application (just a I/H/E) and then modify/reprogram again as I move to more advanced bolt-on crap (ITB, Cats, pulleys)?
I'm also VERY interested in how far I could raise the rev limiter with the stock engine internals? I'm looking to help offset the shorter gearing I introduced with shorter wheels and tires and give 2nd gear a little more length (reduce the risk of a shift to 3rd).
Any Ideas? Thanks in advance everyone!

here is some info you might need, pretty sure on the numbers here.
GSR valvetrain can go to 8500 rpm
ITR valvetrain can go to 9000 rpm
Portflow and others can see 10,000 rpm safely even with bigger cams.

Bear with me
...Stock size... 195/55/15 : height = 23.4"
225/45/13 : height = 21.0" (Calced) 20.7" (Hoosier)
Difference : Calced = 10.3%, Hoosier = 11.5%
Old Max Speed 2nd : Tested = 67, Listed 65
New Second Max Speed : Tested & Calced = 60.1, Tested & Hoosier = 59.3, Listed & Calced = 58.31, Listed & Hoosier = 57.53
Any one have radar gun? So my current max speed in second is somewhere between 57.53 - 60.1.
Range of MPH per 100 RPM = 0.7016 to 0.7329
Increase of 300 RPM... 2.11 MPH - 2.2 MPH
Final 2nd Gear Max Range... 59.64 - 62.3
Might need to go to a 50 series tire... Real (Measured) data will posted tomorrow.
Just brain storming... Any errors in these calcs?
Hondata, Hondata, Hondata. OBD1 P72 ECU and Skunk2 plug swapper (OBD2 => OBD1 Connector). You get the stage 1 or stage 2 kit... with a I/H/E you will probably want to take your car to a dyno to 1) re-check the VTEC crossover point... set it where the TORQUE curves cross and 2) give you more fuel/ advance (low) and retard (high) for better power curve.
Most dealers or Stage 4 people are willing to work with you/ burn you new chips.
I've run my stock GSR valve train to 9K by accident, I would NOT recommend it... I got lucky. 8500 seems like a good number, but don't keep it there.
Good luck,
Sean

sounds like you are a bit nitpicky for autox.
course layouts change too often here for me to depend on any specific setup and calculations like you have in mind.
sometimes it is best to bounce off the rev limiter for a few seconds, really.

Most of the national courses tend to be more open then the local courses we run. 2nd day at the Rome tour I went to third. at the Peru Tour I Rode then revlimiter several times on day one and went to third in two different spots on day 2.
plus, if you think I'm nitpicky? you should see the REALLY good drivers!
I found this on the integra forum... would have saved me some trouble

Seems like my numbers were a pretty close.
again... cause I'm a geek...
Prechip...
20.7" (225/45/13 hoosier) = 60.4MPH
21.8" (225/50/13 hoosier) = 63.6MPH
23.5" (215/45/16 Azenis) = 68.6MPH (about what I experience on my street tires...)
Postchip (with 8500 revlimit)
20.7" (225/45/13 hoosier) = 62.6MPH
21.8" (225/50/13 hoosier) = 65.9MPH
23.5" (215/45/16 Azenis) = 71.1MPH
