Chips, ECUs and the rev limiter
Ok... with a stock GS-R motor can you safely raise the limiter (via Chip/ECU upgrade). How high can you go without having to worry about problems (valve float... etc)? Reputable companies to talk to? Programmed versus reprogramable chips?
I run in SCCA Street Prepared so I can't touch the engine internals...

I'd be interested in hearing this.
I believe Greg Samaroo (CHEETAH) knows somebody in his locale that did (does?) rechipping of ECU's for higher rev limits and VTEC x-overs.
Locash racing's name has also been tossed around a couple of times over the last couple of years on this board as ECU chippers.
C-Speed Racing also advertises ECU rechipping, but I e-mail'd them and there was no response. I'm wondering if C still does ECU's, especially with their emphasis now on Hondata.

well chipping a stock motor wont really create any power. this is because the purpose of altering the computer is to work better with the mod's done to the car, you might be able to squeeze a horse or two out, but i wouldnt raise the rev limiter any more than 3-4 hundred rpm's
edit: just realize you have a 2000, i would recomend converting to OBDI, for 2 reasons 1 you will get more power 2 you cant chip your ecu

If your stuck with stock GSR cams then raising your rev limiter wont help you much. Like MattL said you may get 1 or 2hp max. Maybe you can play around with a VAFC and adjust your fuel map as well.... just a thought.

actually gaining horsepower is not the number one thing on my mind for this modification. Most Autocrosses are run in 1st & 2nd gear. I effectivly shorted my gearing (with shorter wheels & tires) so my second gear now maxs at about 59-60MPH. I want to keep the acceleration advantage of the shorter tires but gain some length back in second gear. With the extra revs I'll spend less time on the rev limiter in second and hopefully avoid the time consuming shift to third. Its amazing but an extra 2-4 mph will make a huge difference. I'm just concerned if the engine can take it...

Is there anything available that will allow easy modification of the ecu after more work is done? example : I have I/H/E now... I'm looking at a new intake manifold with independent throttle bodies this winter.
Just looking for any thoughts... ideas...
