Default 2009 Accord Coupe Oil Change

The Owners Manual calls for 5w-20 and 5000 miles between changes. Would Mobil 1 every 3-4000 miles be OK or overkill. The miles between change may be but the synthetic vs regular oil I think is a good choice. What are your thoughts on the subject?

U can never change your oil too much. It might get a little pricey if you change if frequently, but that is the only down side.

I change my oil only when the light comes on, 08 Accord V6 6 Spd, with Mobil 1 5W-20 and Honda filter.

i think you should be fine. changing the oil often (even prematurely) is better than changing the oil for longer than the time suggested.

Contrary to popular belief changing your oil early does no benefit. Just change it when the car says to do so.

Perhaps a bit of an elementary question, but on the topic of Oil Changes, I have a 2009 Accord Coupe V-6 Navi and it's time for it's first oil change. Do I have to take the car to a dealer so that the visual settings will reset like the 15% warning indicator or can I go to a local oil change place like a Penzoil and the system will reset without any intervention?

Thanks for your help.

I believe you just display your oil life percentage in the HUD and hold the "select/reset" button for about 10 seconds until it starts flashing, release, and press and hold for another 5 second and it should display "100% oil life". If that doesnt work check your owners manual.

and stay away from pennzoil, WD40 would be a better choice.

That's overkill and serves no purpose. If you're using a synthetic oil, changing it at an interval sooner than 5000 miles is just throwing money in the toilet, with the only exception being that you don't cover 5000 miles in an entire year.

Follow the Maintenance Minder. It's there for a reason.

WHAT!!!! i like to change my oil everytime the oil % gets to about 70%. some of you or most of you would say HEY THATS STUPID WHY SO EARLY...well i use that percentage just like teachers used grade scales and last time i checked 70% is a "C" anything lower than that is a F. so if your like everyone else and wait till 15% your oil was overdue LAST SEMESTER!!!! PLUS, a fresh honda engine is a happy honda engine so don't keep it in too long.

I changed the oil in my 92 Accord every 3000 miles (Castrol GTX 5w-20), and the oil pick-up screen still got clogged up at 125k miles. I am using Mobil 1 in the 03, to hopefully reduce the chance of sludge build-up this time. I'm not about to extend the interval past 4000 miles though, because removing the oil pan on this engine doesn't look any easier. I would rather be safe than sorry. I do all my own maintenance, so it doesn't cost me that much. I find it interesting, that the severe interval on my 03 V6 is 3750 miles, but when the Maintenance Minder was added in 06, suddenly this same engine can go 5000 + miles between changes. I don't like the MM system, and I'm glad my car doesn't have it.

if i were you i would crack open the owners manual that tells you the answer to that question. why own a car and never look in the manual?

It's in the owner's manual and someone above did provide the instructions as well. Pretty simple.
