Question abt speed sensor
got question for 00 em1 since my speed sensor stop working my vtec dont pop thats wat i think, just want to know my vtec dont on cuz of the speed sensor or its some other problem?
If the ECU is not getting the signal from the sensor the check engine light will be on. With that code on the VTEC will not work. You need to figure out why the speed sensor isnt working.

nope won't work without the speedometer working. It will work if the o2 is out though.

I have the same problem with my sisters car right now (00 EM1). This is exactly what is going on. The speedometer isn't working, as well as Vtec. CEL is on and said the speedsensor isn't working.
Anyone know how much the sensor cost? Is it hard to change the sensor?

The signal comes from the cluster. The older EFs that had cable clusters still put out an electrical signal for the ECU fyi.
If your VTEC pops then there is something wrong.
edit: VTEC requires a certain speed, oil pressure, and coolant temperature for engagement

I am not sure about how much they cost anymore, I think its around $100, but not sure, and no it isn't hard to change, it has 1, 10mm bolt tightening it down after you get the bolt out twist the sensor and it should just pull right out.

True, I don't know too much about the Ef's, i've never really messed with one of those, but yeah the eg's and ek's have the signal coming from the speedometer and all for the vtec to come in.
