Speed Sensor Question
ok I've been having a problem with my speed sensor for a while the speedometer wouldn't rise except when I hit bumps then it worked for a while then stopped now it just doesn't rise at all even with bumps. The check engine light is also on so I ran the jumper wire and came up with "17" vehicle speed sensor code is it possible something might be disconnected if so where might that be? the connector is connected to the speed sensor I check that already. Thanks in advance for replies.

What kind of car do you have? Try cleaning it, 99% of the time that fixes it.

Almost without a dought you have had the same problem that has plagued many Honda's. Either the power wire or the signal wire becomes covered with corrosion, just like your battery does, this causes a poor connection and you speedometer to jump or not work at all. You can either replace the plug ( wires included) or pull out the corroded pin and replace it with a new one. Either way it is a pretty simple fix.

If you look on your transmission you will find the VSS, it has a three pin connector on it. Disconnect the connector, take out the white plastic protector and then look at the three pins. One of the pins will look either greeny-blue with a little bit of white on it or it will look burnt. This is the pin that you need to replace. I believe that it is the center pin.
I checked my VSS yesterday and found out the middle pin was corroded and had broken off but was still in the connector loose any ideas on where to get a pin to replace it and how to do it? or should I just buy a VSS? thanks.
Radio Shack might have a pin like that. the easies way would be to cut it off another eninge harness or just pull a pin out of a plug. That pin is the same as the pins that connect the engine harness to the car harness on integras.
If you get a pin with a lead on it , just solder the wires together. If not you are going to have to crimp the new pin onto the wire. I would run over the base of it with solder to make sure the connection will last.
