Default D16y7 mods

I have a D16y7 in my 89 Si hatch, and while it's adequate, it definitely doesn't excite. I already have the standard I/H/E bolted on, and an a6 intake manifold but those net pretty minimal gains on a D. I was thinking of mini me/ecu chip/cam to give it some *****. I don't really want to swap the engine for a B - it's a lot of work and a decent chunk of change, and I would rather play with what I have. So the question is: what kind of gains would I be looking at with a y8 head/ecu chip/stage 1 cam? From what I know i'd probably be looking at +60 HP ish which would put me somewhere near a stock B16a without all the heartache. I know it's totally subjective, but would it be worth it? Any info/experience would be greatly appreciated! Anyone have dyno numbers from a similar setup? Cheers!

Either now or later, a Y8 intake manifold is a must for your setup.

thanks for the reply.

I have the a6 manifold installed - which to the best of my knowledge delivers higher top end power, while the y8 is more for low to midrange power. Since I have a 4 cylinder, (efficient at higher RPM) I'm thinking that the a6 mani might be just as effective as the y8. I was mostly wondering if it would be less work to build the top end on this engine slightly or just go for a full out b series swap.

Just to give you an idea.
+60 HP, all motor, with the mods you mention is not even close to being realistic.
I was making 155 HP at 6 psi with a small IHI turbo. That set up costed me
around $850.

Haha, yeah - I realized that it would be quite a bit less than that after I ran it through my head again after the post

I see you have a y8 head - any other mods? (chip, cam, etc)

You are not seeing right. That is a 100% stock D16Y7.
There is no VTEC solenoid anywhere on that picture.
I used a CRX Si intake manifold.

I've always heard it the other way around, the Y8 being great for top-end power, since the plenum is so large, and it accommodates larger throttle bodies.

ya i agree either a y8 intake mani or a z6 there are tons of arguments of which is better but no one has even done an accual flow test , but ya both flow better than A6

sweet! nice looking work you've done to it. Where can I buy the turbo kit you are currently running?
