P28 ECU and D16Y8. Anyone using the combo?

I am *trying* to run a stock P28 ECU for a stock D16Y8 engine. I realize that this is not the correct combo, however I do not see any real reason why it should not drive normally. Everything is stock.
I want to know if there is anyone else running the combo. D16X block with Y8 VTEC head is the same thing as a full Y8 in this case so yes post up if you have any variation.
I have this combo in a CRX, all wiring is correct, idle is ok, car drives like SHEEEIT. Anything under 3K rpms and under 30% TPS causes the car to buck/hesitate/randomly take off. When I push the pedal down the car accelerates in steps, but there is no hesitation. I have tried two different TPS sensors, this is not the problem. No useful codes. I can resolder J1 and tune the car with Crome, but I'm trying to avoid that until I absolutely have to.
So, is there ANYONE running a D16Y8 with a stock P28 ECU. Does it run smoothly. If not and you tried it, did it do what mine is doing?
Just trying to find out if I'm causing the problem or if I need to find it. Thanks.

plus, p28 is not made for the y8 man, u need to get that ecu tuned so it could actually send the right mixture of air / fuel. you might be running too rich im thinking. get it tuned with that ecu and it will all be good, if all the wiring is good i dont think the conversion is needed cuz otherwise the car wouldnt start or a check engine light would be on.. any check engine lights ? if not, get it tuned, or see if u get a p07, which will work fine with ur car.

Are you on crack or something? P28 should run a D16Y8 reasonably well, its a very similar engine to the D16Z6, ideally get it tuned. All the sensors the P28 looks for will be on the D16Y8. P07 is a D15Z1 VX ECU, it will not work fine in the OPs car

I know the timing differences, I know everything there is to know about both of these. Only thing I don't know, is if the P28 will run the Y8, I need PERSONAL experience with this. Regurgitated theory isn't much help right now.

This is exactly what I'm thinking. There should really be NO Reason why a P28 shouldn't run this engine reasonably well. I'm not expecting perfect, but I really don't feel like tuning the damn thing. Plus, I need to find out if I have a problem with the car or if the stock ECU IS the problem, otherwise I'm going to try and tune a car with problems and that is a serious waste of my time.

The ECU I have is already chipped, I cut J1 to turn it into a stock ECU in order to not have to do anything.
Basically I'm trying to confirm that my problem is definitely the stock P28 ECU. Need to knock off one problem at a time because if I start tuning the car then my possibilities of why the car isn't running correctly go up ten fold.

if you don't have any CEL and MAP and TPS are within specs, then I'd say there is something going on with that ECU. Incidentally, want to get rid of the knock sensor since you aren't using it anymore?

I broke it when I supercharged the engine 2 years ago.

Why is it that every time I see a mini-me done with a Y8 head, people ALWAYS buy a P28 ECU? I know my P06 runs my D16Y7 PERFECTLY, but maybe p28 on D16Y8 is different? I know tons of people who have a P28 on a D16Y8.
Now, I am running just a D16Y7 long block with a D15B7 components. I'm not sure if this is why mine runs perfectly.

Im running a p28 on my d16y8 motor...when i full throttle all the way to 7k rpm and let go of gas, my rpm falls back down slowly...does anyone know if I can get a d16y8 basemap burned into a p28??
oh yeah, my car hesitates when i floor it but i swapped out the injectors with obd2 gsr injectors, it runs so much better...

i had a y8 in my car was running it with a p28 it seem to run it fine minus the fact vtec wasnt working. the idle would surge every once in a while, but if you get the y8 basemap onto a chip and have them uncheck the o2 sensors you should be fine. since obd1 runs on a 1 o2 sensor and obd2 runs on 2 .i found this link to this website here on h/t phearable.net they will be able to get this basemap done for you

like said before it will work but not too its potential because of the timing differences. i ran a chipped p28 on my boosted y8 for about 2 years, had it tuned good but the timing maps were always an issue. just never felt like it was running 100%. when i would get on it, it felt like it was being held back at higher rpm's. since then the timing has been solved but i will never run a y8 head again with any kind of OBD1 rom editor.
