They didn't sell as well as Honda thought they would.
I worked at a Honda dealership in 1997, and we still had 1996 models on the lot along with the 1997s. I live in GA where it's a great climate for targa tops/convertables and they just didn't sell so well.
Couple that with the fact that many of the first few year models had creaky/squaky tops/body noises and I think it was a smart move to stop them.
My mom's got a 1997 with 90k on it and it doesn't creak or rattle...yet. They're pretty cool cars, but I personally would not own one. To each his own I guess.

the P28 is like the P30, there are OBD2 versions of them, but they are rare.
the issue with the P2P maps, OBD2 uses both fuel and ignition maps very differently than OBD1, so it's not directly comparable.
To chip an ECU to use on the Y8, start with P28 maps and tune from there.

Re: P28 ECU and D16Y8. Anyone using the combo?
I have a quick question. I am also trying to run a chipped p28 on my y8 but accelaration is slugish and sputters at times. I was wondering if the sensore used on a y8 are the same as the ones used on a z6. Could this be the problem or are the sensors the same?

Re: P28 ECU and D16Y8. Anyone using the combo?
im having the same problem in my '98 civic. but im running an OBD1 motor(JDM ZC SOHC), with a stock P28. its running real rich and it hesitates at idle and upon acceleration. but once it gets to about 3500 RPM, it clears up and pulls just fine. could this be the same problem. it was throwing a code for an O2 sensor, but is it the actual sensor going bad or could it be something triping the O2 sensor? any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

Re: P28 ECU and D16Y8. Anyone using the combo?
I am *trying* to run a stock P28 ECU for a stock D16Y8 engine. I realize that this is not the correct combo, however I do not see any real reason why it should not drive normally. Everything is stock.
I want to know if there is anyone else running the combo. D16X block with Y8 VTEC head is the same thing as a full Y8 in this case so yes post up if you have any variation.
I have this combo in a CRX, all wiring is correct, idle is ok, car drives like SHEEEIT. Anything under 3K rpms and under 30% TPS causes the car to buck/hesitate/randomly take off. When I push the pedal down the car accelerates in steps, but there is no hesitation. I have tried two different TPS sensors, this is not the problem. No useful codes. I can resolder J1 and tune the car with Crome, but I'm trying to avoid that until I absolutely have to.
So, is there ANYONE running a D16Y8 with a stock P28 ECU. Does it run smoothly. If not and you tried it, did it do what mine is doing?
Just trying to find out if I'm causing the problem or if I need to find it. Thanks.
