it was just the simple version instead of getting into the way an OBD2 ecu works. but to draw a picture for you ill post up the timing maps for both in crome.
P28 base timing
P2P base timing
you can see how different it is and you would think that all you woul dhave to do is just make the numbers match right? nope its not that easy. if you would like to learn more or read for yourself search pgmfi.org on p2p timing.

oh and you have to remember that the base timing for the Y8 is supposed to be 12, so the maps in crome show it about 9.25* off. so just subtract 9.25 from the timing tables right? wrong it doesn't work like that. there was an 8 page discussion of trial and error with alot of Y8/crome users.

I've just swapped the P28 to my y8....i feel it picks up even slower then my stock P2P... not sure why, but really don't like that feeling when you installed something would be better then stock, end up even worse, unless you spend more time and money to fine tune that thing...really sucks..

running a completley different timing map then your motor needs is the reason why its slower then stock now.

I have a friend with a d16y8 in his crx running a p28. car runs good, but runs rich, he says he gets 20 mpg in town. we are just gonna throw a d16z6 in it instead of getting it tuned.

This is good to know, I was about to try and run my Y8 on a stock p28 map soon... Any chance anyone has the stock map for a Y8 I can use instead? There isn't a file on Smanager already for it and I checked hondata's site and they don't have one either.

i can email you the P2P rom dump but its no better then runnign the P28 map. not sure why but something def gets lost in translation. my advice is if your wanting to run a p28 or chipped ecu and be able to make good power and easily tune it just get a z6 head. but thats just my opinion.

I actually just wanted to use s300 to control the nitrous on my Y8 until I have my H2B setup put together then I want to use the same ecu with an h22 map.
My email is tmanzo90@msn.com if you don't mind sending me the p2p file anyway.
Sorry, I guess I'm threadjacking also.

they are stock ROM dumps from the ecu and motor in the topic. not sure what you are thinking that means but yeah, stock map.
thanks capt obvious

the timing IS different from the z6 and y8...if you really want a p28...the 96-97 del sol SI comes with a OBD2 D16y8 but with a P28 ecu...trust me i just bought a 96 del sol SI and it comes with a P28 OBD2. the timing is the same as the y8 but it DOESN'T have the EVAP code

theres no performance upgrade by useing a stock OBD1 p28 unless you decide to chip it and get a map for your set-up and tune.
never knew they came in obd2, thats good to know in case it ever comes up.

the p2p rom is not accurate at all. your car would perform better if you were just to run the stock ecu or like said above try to find a obd2 p28 from a 96-97 del sol si. i have heard many reasons why the stock p2p rom dump is off, like the obd2 ecu corrects timing from input from the KS and that the cam gear has an extra tooth. not sure if any of those theorys are correct but i do know that its not as easy as burning the p2p rom to a chip.

There are no OBD2 P28s. The '96 - '97 Del Sol Si's used a D16Y8 and P2P the same as the '96 - '00 Civic EX coupes.

What the freak. I'm still not sure if thats OBD2 or not without being able to see the plugs, but what country code is 3? Its definately a late revision.

Well i just called my local Honda dealership parts department and asked for the part number for a 1997 Del Sol Si (SOHC) ECU/ECM and he told me it was 37820-P28-A20.
I've heard of the OBD2 P28 but have never seen one personally. I know it exists for sure now.
