Default What are normal oil pressure and temp readings?

After an uber hot summer where i burnt up lots of oil in a very short amount of driving, I decided it was time to stop being lazy and hook up my oil pressure and temp units.

So, i'm just trying to find out what I SHOULD be seeing on a normal basis. From what I've heard:

<FONT COLOR="blue">-Cold Startup-</FONT>
Pressure @ idle ---- 25psi - 35psi
Pressure @ 3k ----- 80psi

<FONT COLOR="orange">-Warm operation ( 80c - 90 ) -</FONT>
Psi @ idle ---- 15psi - 25psi
Psi @ 3k ----- 60 psi or greater

<FONT COLOR="red">-Hot Temp ( 100c ) -</FONT>
Psi @ idle ---- 8psi
Psi @ 3k ----- 50psi

At ambient temps of around 60f or so, I'm not getting anything more than 90c during normal driving.

The other day I was doing a little spirited driving on the freeway ( redline getting on the onramp, 4k rpms on the freeway, 80-90mph ) and was able to get it to 100c with an ambient temp of around 85f

It would help to know what weight oil you are using. Your oil pressure looks normal for a 10w30 weight oil.

Oil temp will vary according to ambient temperature and setup. I have an OEM oil cooler and I see around 195-210 on a hot summer day and around 150-180 on a cold day. At the track, the oil temp will exceed 250 after a few laps.

What do you see as far as oil pressure?

I use 20w50, so my oil pressure will be much higher. Like I said before, your numbers are exactly where I would expect them to be with the oil weight you are using. You don't have anything to be concerned about.

Ok, after driving around i updated some of my numbers. From what i read from Helms, the psi should be 10 @ idle and 50@3k after 2 fan cycles. I can only assume that their numbers are based on a temp somewhere between 90c and 100c cause that's about what i was getting at 100c.

So i guess I should run 10w40 during the summer and 5w-30 in the winter.

Anyone have any ideas about how much hotter i might expect my oil to run with a turbo?

Do you have an oil cooler, OEM or aftermarket?

I have one waiting for the moment i put the turbo on. You got one too? Do you have an oil thermostat? And if so what temp is full open for it and the average temp you read driving?

I've heard that getting the oil up to 215 is optimal in order to boil off any condensation, but i see oil coolers right around 180 for full open.

I am just running an OEM oil cooler but it does help keep temps down. It has a built in thermostat but I have no idea when it opens up. The oil temp doesn't go above 195 except on hot days or on the track.

see, i wanted to do a stock oil cooler but I've heard of issues with getting the coolant up too high, and since coolant can fuxorz my Headgasket, I don't wanna bother. I'm gonna run the MFactory oil cooler and a oil thermometer sandwich style. I just wish i could find a sandwich that opens at 200, not 180
