Default VSS issue..

Alright well i swapped a new transmission into my car and i was told it was a y7 tranny, and speedometer nor odometer are working so i assumed right away it was the VSS. Also a check engine light comes on during de-acceleration, which is caused by the VSS.

I'm pretty sure my VSS is for an automatic trans, because it has a circular thing o the top of the VSS like the Auto ones do, but when i tried a manual one my speedo still jumped around or dint work, Any suggestions???

With 96+ VSS u cant take the sensor apart from the shaft, so i tried a complete other VSS..

I did find out my VSS is for an automatic tranny, but even when i tried the manual VSS it still didn't work.

sounds like a bad ground to me, make sure all the wiring is good and the plug is clean and check the vss for water pooled up in it tends to happen when working on things like that.

I'm not sure which ground it would be, the one from the body to the tranny is hooked up. I didn't see any fluids in the vss. It also makes me thing the plug from the harness is wack, my previous tranny did the same thing sometimes. Idk what to do..
