Default Rod Knock... Motor Options.

Alright so I've got a 96 ex w/ a d16y8 that of course, is having a rod knock. Since I know the problem will only get worse I've been babying it till I find a replacement or a swap. Now a buddy of mine just rolled his 94 civic with a non vtec sohc. I could probably get the whole swap for cheap but didnt know what I should offer him for it. I dont know if the engine runs since he rolled it so thats one thought, but the front of the car wasnt damaged just the rear end. Now while I think about how cheap I might be able too get this swap for I also have been thinking about a b18a/b swap since theyre cheap too. What do you guys suggest?

Well... depending on how much you want to spend, a replacement d16y8 shouldnt run too much.. But for a little more, you can get a b18b swap..
I could only think an engine that has been running upside down wouldnt be in all that great of condition.. All the oil is gonna run up (or down) to the valve cover, leaving nothing for the oil pump to pump..

Thats exactly what I was thinking about the non vtec and it being rolled. I've been debating about an LS swap for awhile now since they have more power capabilities than a sohc. At the moment I've got around $1500 dollars to work with after I paid for classes. I've heard of people getting LS swaps for like $800 bucks but dont know if thats the average or just a deal. Any other opinions??

With $1500, you can get an LS fine. Unless you just wanna roll around and don't care much about having a nice little pull and what not, the SOHC Non-VTEC is fine.

But I'd probably try finding an LS with that money

Well I could always part out my d16y8 I've got now an make a little cash off of it too. This would be my first swap too so thats why I'm weighing my options. Anyone else??

do the ls.
then once you have more money you can always add to it to make it an even better swap.

nothing wrong with an ls

I think I might just go with a LS then. Since my cars OBD-II I should get one out of a 94-01 integra right??

96 to 99 integras are obd2a, which is what you should be looking for.
I'd go with the LS.. then add a vtec head, and required parts for ls/vtec later.

Well I figured if I got a complete swap then I could get a OBD-II to OBD-I harness and do that??

Yeah, get an obd2a motor, and use your existing wire harness.. run a stock LS obd2a ecu, if you're getting an LS engine..
If you decide to go the LS/Vtec route.. or decide to mod anything major..
Get an obd2a to obd1 jumper harness, and get a p28.. have it chipped and get it tuned.
