I'm in the middle of changing my valve seats and wanted to know a good way for removing the carbon build up.
I had the head degreased when they resurfaced it, but i had the valves in. Just saying
.
I already have the valves out and am wondering what the best method for removing the carbon build up?
I'm debating break cleaner, oven degreaser?

Glass bead is the fastest way as long as you cover the stems so they don't get hit. Then stick in a lathe or drill press and use scotchbrite with some wd40 to take the bead surface away and polish the heads.
Are you doing the machine work or a shop I would think they would have their own way of cleaning.

swarfega metal cleaner.
mix a 50/50 solution (swarf and water) stand the valves in it overnight.
take em out, most carbon will wipe away, some more stubbon bits will come off with a toothbrush type item.
jobs done, clean valves, still coated in oem black anti friction stuff etc.

im sure they sell it in the u.s or you guys have an equivalent of it, its basically metal cleaning acid ( a mild one) DONT use it on alloy heads though , only on inconnel/stainless etc
