Default cast pistons no oil squirters???

ok i have a gsr block with .50 over pr3 rsmachines pistons i had a machine shop blueprint the block and they said that the skirt on the pistons was hitting the oil squirters but that he tried bending the oil squirter slightly for clearance but that it was then touching the crank i havent got the block back yet to verify this but i know ls's dont have squirters and people build reliable ls/vtecs with cast pistons but i want to be sure my motor will be ok without the squirters

my motor is over 2 years old now. recently re-tuned at prostreet import and still making 'decent' powers. motor doesn't come with oil squirters...still running 'strong' and healthy after over 2 years of daily driving, drag racing and 'non-sanctioned' events.

pm me if you need more info

just make sure you get the motor tuned right and you should be fine

no need for oil squirters when running aftermarket pistons. all you need is a oil squirter plug set, GE sells them.

yeah but RS machines pistons are cast just like OE.

I think it would be beneficial to keep them if you plan to beat on the car on the track - perhaps try notching the skirt like some have done?

yea i would do that but the bottom end is already fully balanced and its gunna suck having to take apart the block again and pay to have it notched and rebalanced when there are ls/b20/vtecs that are built right that are still going strong. this will be my dd and im not gunna beat on it all the time the compression is only at 11.5 and the rs machine pistons come with a coating on them i think i will be ok. plus rsmachines pistobs should already come notched like the stock pistons if i would have known before i would have notched it. they should at east let everyone know about it before hand

Sorry to bump an old thread but this information is very important to me. I was be using LS crank & rods in my GSR Block. but instead I've decided to go with 82mm RSMachine PR3's. Should I be worried about the same thing happening to me?

I also heard of people having problems with the LS crank touching the squirters in a GSR block as well.

so will plugging up the squirters affect anything performance wise?

Just depends on how many "raceing" hours you are going to do running the engine between 6000=9000 RPMS. For extended periods of time "1 hour" with the oil temp above 240F you may have a problem.

So I should be fine driving normally and occasionally going to 8200rpm's. I wont be doing any track racing or auto cross. Just daily driven mild setup.

just from what i have observed: hondas run and live under much more stress with cast pistons than other motors that do not have them. i would not want to be turning 9k with no oil squirters on a cast slug. if you want to avoid oil squirters 4032 forged aluminum would be a better choice in a high heat environment. ring choice is also important. you can fracture a cast ring if you keep it hot long enough. nitraded steel will not fail under the stress of a track day nearly as fast.

Yes. Unless you drive between 6000-9000 for hours like the sideways guy.

I'm starting to think twice about my whole LS Crank and GSR Block combo...

its only a little more displacement anyways compared to the GSR

Its not really about the squirters anymore because you answered my question on that matter.

more about the rods not liking 8000rpm's. I mean I've never dealt with LS/VTEC type builds so I wouldn't really know. I know that A) I should upgrade the rod bolts & B) possibly get the rods shot peened

idk.. I don't want to spin a bearing or something..

If you are sticking with stock rods. The GSR ,"R" can handle more RPMs and abuse than LS rods. You really need to decide what you want, a little more TQ, or a little more top end. The decision is yours.
