Default Car was Attempted to be stolen, now having problems with mechanic/insurance. Please help

Hello everyone I have a 1998 Type R. I'm posting this because I'm in some trouble. About 2 weeks ago my car was attempted to be stolen, luckily we chased the kids off. The whole steering column was in shreds and my alarm system was cut. My Insurance company suggested a Auto Shop (bad decision) and I agreed to use them to put in a steering column. Well, after they finished the job, I picked my car up and the check engine light was on and the car was running extremely poor. The RPM meter was going up and down like I've never seen before, the car almost died everytime I shifted. About 2 blocks away, I parked the car and called a tow truck to have Acura dealer check it out. I didn't know what to think at this time because the car was running perfectly before the theft. The insurance company told me there could be a few reasons why this happened. Acura looked at my car, they said they were having trouble finding the problem because the ECU was aftermarket. So, my Insurance company agreed to pay for a factory ECU for Acura to diagnose the problem. Finally, today they called me and told me that the OS Censor for the cadillac converter needed to be replaced and the manifold Censor also needed to be replaced. So, my question is, my car was running perfectly before this theft.. I have a strong feeling my car is messed up because they did a poor job on the installation of the steering column and whatever else they had to do. I just feel like the first auto shop didn't know what they were doing because the stereo wasn't working and the key got stuck when they were trying to fix my car. Like I said before, my car was running in almost perfect condition before the theft, and now it's running like crap. If anyone could give me some thought or advice I would greatly appreciate it. Also, the Insurance company said they will not cover the censors because they don't feel like this happened because of the installation or theft. Was this a misdiagnosis from Acura? or could this actually be from the theft or installation? Sorry for the long post. This boggles my mind. Thank you.

May I ask if your insurance company is bullshit Geico? If it is, then it answer lots of question since they rape you when you are in trouble by sending you to the cheapest junk body who will work at $40.00 per hour. Who the hell in this day an age the will do a decent job at that low rate!

well i hope this helps but its hard to read post's like this when its one big bunched up paragraph's etc.

worn out or bad o2 sensors will throw a check engine light which may be one of your problems.

also try and see if your local dealer can see what code it is throwing.
they should be able to hook it up to the car and it will tell the techs exactly what is wrong. a bad steering rack install will not cause the car to run like crap but it wont drive that great.
and your problem with the stereo not working, when one of the battery terminals are removed a code is needed to get it to work.

these are the only thing's i can think of with the info you provided.
now i need a

Anytime I have ever taken my car into a shop of any kind I make a note of the mileage on the car. A real note. And I leave it in the passenger seat. My guess would be the 8====D 's who worked on your car thought it would be awesome to rag quite harshly on an r just to make sure their work was done right......

an o2 sensor can go bad at any time. o2 and a steering column has ZERO connection with each other. when cracking the steering wheel to bust the tongue (lock pin) in the column all its doing is twisting the ignition assembly along with where it is mounted to on the steering column and when the opening for the tongue is it doesnt affect anything else. HOWEVER you state you have an alarm in there that was cut maybe the wiring for it wasnt re-installed properly (if you have remote start etc).

the secondary o2 does interact with everything on the cluster for some reason, my friend also had the same problem where his o2 melted and grounded out on the exhaust and messed with the eld. It was pretty crazy the car was sitting still but was putting miles on

if.. your car was running properly prior to break in, you have to check every wire, make sure theres nothing cut, no bad grounds.. also.. they should check charging system.. could be alternator? may sound like its related.. but often things fail at wrong times.. as might be with 02 sensor.. sorry you have to deal with retards that can't diagnose the problem. your ecu should throw codes, you can pull it yourself http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/06.php then let us know the codes

Update: Since I'm working with my insurance company they are saying that it was very unlikely that it was caused by the Installation/Theft which is BS, so they are telling me to pay for deeper diagnosis if I choose to do so. The dealership says it could be wires but very unlikely, I just don't know what to think.. My car was running fine before this and not it's not.. Any advice?

That's because it pops a fuse, I forget which one off the top of my head, but check the fuses just in case.

what codes are you throwing?

It sounds like your not going to be doing the work yourself to fix the problem. And if so your at the mercy of whatever dealer/repair store you go to.

Honestly I doubt its the alarm, unless you have multiple sensors spliced into that thing, Normally its just fuel cut or whatever so its either the car works or it doesn't.

Find out what the codes are and post it on here. We will be able to help you much more after this.

The codes are the O2 Censor 2 - and Manifold sensor.
