The factory honda ignition system is good up to around 600 whp.
Don't touch it if you don't need to.

Get rid of the upgraded coil. Check all your dist. wiring for shorts or bad connections and test your igniter unit.

Honda distributors really suck. If you're dead set on Crome, you're stuck with them. Unless you want to try the MSD distributor (I THINK it was MSD). I got sick of Honda distributors so I did what Bisimoto did.

AEM Engine Position Module (EPM) & a CDI pencil coil setup. This type of setup is for someone with $2k to spend on an ignition.

AEM EMS
AEM EPM
AEM CDI Pencil Coils
= $1600-2k+ for all new parts

Yes you ebay used parts gurus may find this stuff cheaper used..... :headshake:

With this setup there is no doubt that you will have a very reliable engine management & distributorless ignition system.

Being realistic here! This set up is not exactly required for a DD street car. Honda's ignition system works just fine for those of us keeping it under 10K RPM and 400WHP.

One says they are good up to 400hp the OP say 600hp, I guess it just depends on your setup as a whole. Well I can vouch for the 600hp because I really made this much on a oem dizzy. I was wondering if theres any quick cheap upgrade that works with crome, as I dont have enough time to get a whole new EMS and ignition system, and get it all dialed in in time. I think Ill be going with the AEM setup described below. But thats now til I get a couple more thousands

Is there anything cheaper thats known to perform just as well, with the same reliability?

you can put an msd box on it or mallory, accel. there are lots of ignition amplifiers. alot of people on here have problems with msd stuff, but i think alot of it is more install related than product related, and the msd is more popular so thats what you hear the most about.

get a msd replacement dizzy and rotor, with a aftermarket coil and an ignition amplifer and you should be good.

Making 600whp you might need to consider adding another fuel pump soon
