need opinion on fixing a blown engine
the motor is a b18c5 type-r
I bought just the complete bottom end.
here is what I know. the motor had been assembled by a local race shop, but the owner went with a pre-set tune and the first time out , the motor detonated and blew.
it has no miles on it since the rebuild, has je pistons and pauter rods. #3 cylinder sleeve is cracked all the way down on one side.
I know one of the pistons is damaged, and I really need to completely check the condition of the remaining internals.
my questions is , would you sleeve this block or just replace it with a gsr block?

I do want to run some boost to it at a later date, but probably not more than 10-12 lbs.
That is true. I could probably just buy a replacement short block. Is there anything about a type-r bottom end that makes it worth saving? meaning, is there a significant difference between the R crank and the GSR crank?
I would love to get 300hp to the wheels. how safe is that with stock sleeves?

All motor will require sleeves and then some.
Boosted, stock sleeves are fine.

sleeve it and bore it to 84mm...That way youll have a beefy bottom end good for n/a or turbo later down the road...
It could be the last block you ever need!
And if the ITR crank is still good, def keep it...
Theyre supposedly a little better than the gsr.(different counterweights?).
