Why does my radio reset itself?
This is the second time I'm having issues with the radio/cd player reseting it's settings and erasing the memory. First on my Tercel's stock radio, now on my DC's aftermarket cd player. What can I do to fix this? Is this a grounding issue? Wiring? TIA
The HU is not getting constant 12V+, first check the "back up" fuse, normally a 7.5A in the engine bay fuse box.
The back up fuse is not big enough for high power aftermarket HUs, DO NOT replace the 7.5A with a bigger fuse, instead run a fused 12ga power lead from the batt. to behind the HU and connect the HUs constant power, [yellow] to it, don't forget to cap off the now unused stock constant power, you will also need to add a 12ga chassis to chassis ground, if you are using a metal back support off the back of the HU to the stock metal back support you will not need to add the 12ga chassis to chassis ground.

yea its the fuse might be burned because I currently had installed my aftermarket stereo then when i took it off the fuse was blown but I had replaced it with a spare fuse that comes in the fuse box under and next to the steering wheel...its a 7.5just chek for the one that says spare fuse not the other one that is being used.
Alright well I checked the underhood fuse labeled "back up" and it was ok and honestly

this sounds like a foreign language to me so I'm just going to have to deal with it. lol. Ofcourse unless someone can lead me to a more detailed explanation I may be able to figure it out.

The reason the radio resets itself is there is no constant power, the yellow lead on the HU should have a constant 12V+, [hot at all times].
What is the make and model of the aftermarket HU?
What is the MM&Y of car it is in?
Do you have or can you borrow a multimeter or 12V test light?
You will need to confirm that the HU is getting both a 12V+ acc., [switched power] and a 12V+ constant power, [hot at all times] and that they are connected properly to the HU.
One possibility, if there is both a switched and constant 12V+ to the HU, is that they are switched, [12V+ constant connected to the switched input and the 12V+ acc. is connected to the 12V+ constant input.

ah I see, alright well here's the information for what's it's worth I could give it a shot once I'm free and borrow a 12v test light or multimeter from pepboys or something.

Yes lead = wire, your Sony HU will have standard car audio wire colors.
Red - 12V+ acc., [hot in acc. and run].
Yellow - 12V+ constant, [hot at all times]
Orange - Illumination, [if you have it]
Blue and blue/white- amp and power ant. control leads, [you may only have one]
Black - ground.
Gray, Green, White, and violet sets are speaker leads.

Ok, so for instance when I'm playing a cd in acc then I turn the car on, it holds it's memory and continues to play the track. But if I turn the car off and restart it, the settings are reset, the player is turned off and I have to re-configure the EQ. I hope this helps get down to the root of the problem better.
So basically, this is what I hvae to do to fix it:

Alright well I attempted to fix the problem tonight and upon inspecting the wire harness I found that there seem to have been two after market cd players installed and some of the harness from both attempts still left over. I found a yellow lead that had a dead end. The other end was connected with a buttplug and crimped together to a red wire? I took the end and spliced it into the yellow lead that was connected to the red lead and tested it out to find that I know have a constant 12v+ and the memory is now saved!
I hope I did it right and everything is ok. Honestly I'm not sure what the other wire was that the yellow lead was crimped to but splicing the dead end back into the yellow gave me what I needed and everything seems ok.
Thanks fcm for all the help!

LOL... your going to laugh.
I checked the fuse under the hood again and the back up fuse was burned out. I must've missed it the first time since it looked alright... Anyways now my radio stays on all the time even when the key is out of the ignition. I spliced together the yellow wires and it has constant power at ALL TIMEs... No big deal, I'm going to fix that tonight.
EDIT:
I got it figured out. The Acc/Battery/Memory wires for some reason were all crimped together in a buttfplug. There was a dead end memory (yellow lead) wire that I mentioned in my earlier post also. I disconnected the yellow lead from the red and pink (acc and battery) loom and reconnected it to the dead end (cut off) yellow lead and everything is fine now. Replaced the fuse under the hood and now my clock and everything runs fine and the radio has it's memory back
Thx again.
