Im interested in installing HIDS on the headlights and fog lights but one of my friends that works at the Honda Dealer told me that he has seen other people try that and end up blowing a fuse, has anyone else had this problem or has heard this rumor?

 

Any electrical item installed incorrectly can blow a fuse or perhaps even more. tehre are many many HID 'Kits" availible by aftermarket companies... do a web search. but remember ytou get what you pay for.

 

I haven't hears of that being a specific problem but I would reccomend not doing the fogs. Even a 4300k bulb in the fogs is extremely bright.

I also wouldn't go much higher than a 6000k in the headlights unless you like people flashing their highbeams at you all the time.

 

Yea dude I also heard that the HIDS may damage the plastic on the fog lights, 6000k is a lil too white im diggin the 8000k a lil bit more cuz its pretty much in between the white and blue! I might just install the HIDS on the low beam and tint the fogs yellow and throw on the JDM yellow bulbs

Do you think the 8000k HIDS will damage the projectors?

 

Possibly, 8000k is a pretty hot bulb. Haven't seen them in an '08 yet.

 

Do the kelvin degrees really matter or is it really up to the wattage of the bulb or ballast? And also im confused about the bulb size of the low beam and fog lights some web sites say they are both h11's and some web sites say the low beam is 9006 and the fogs are h11's....which one of the two is it?

 

On my 08 coupe it has h11 because its the projector head lights

on the sedans its the 9006 because its not the projector type lights.

 

id go with the 5000k or 6000k. as far as heat goes it has a lower temp than halogen lights. it also takes less amps than a halogen except when the ballast first starts. try getting the harness kit that has the relays. that what i have on mine.

the reason the fuse pops is because the first start up of the ballast is drawing more than 20 amps for a split second and pops the fuse. after start up the ballast draws 35w rather than 45-50w halogen.

higher the kelvins the lower the light output is. lower the kelvin the closer it is to natural sunlight with higher light output. 5-6k is the pure white with a little blue.

I love the 6000k in my '97 Accord. Very good light output that lights up street signs and markings and very far away and I have yet to get flashed by anyone.

 

Kelvin numbers are for brightness and color output. Either match the headlights and fogs to like a 4300k or 5000k (6000k if you really want to go that high) or get a 5000k headlight with 3000k fog (yellow color).

The lower the number the better output there is. BTW do you have coupe or sedan? If coupe, then the output will be great because it has projects, but in the sedan you have reflector headlights so it will not come out good unless you have retros.

The 6000k work fine in the stock headlights on my '97 Accord.

 

Damn dude thanx alot for clearing that up for me, that **** really had me confused! I was looking through ebay and was confused about the whole size thing.....have you guys heard anything about the new slim ballast system?

 

I got the slim, same thing just a smaller ballast.

I would strongly recommend placing the ballasts in a place they will get good air flow. They will last longer.

where did you get this info from? more air= chance of getting water on the ballast when it rains. even if its sealed you still want to keep it as far from getting wet as possible because it runs at a very high voltage that could not just short out the ballast but also your headlight circuit.

why would people flash their highbeams at you? the higher you up the temperature scale, the darker and less light out comes out, 10k is pretty much useless purple lights.

I have a friend that has been importing and selling HID kits for a couple of years now. It's all from experience with different units/set ups.

But you are absolutely correct on the second part. I think my mind was somewhere else when I typed that. One of the hazards of posting at work. on me.

I have seen 4300k, 6000k, 8000k, 9000k and 12000k bulbs all tested in a 2000 Civic factory housing. The difference in the blinding factor when facing them increased from the 4300 to the 8000 then fell off after that. I thought it was odd since the forward illumination suffered horrendously over 6000k.

ummm 4300k is the brightest, it just gets more color and darker after that. you really don't know much about hids........
