My mom totaled her car the other day, she had a 98 with 170,000 miles on it. A buddy of mine is selling his Accord, it's an 04 EX-L V-6. It has 115,000 miles on it. Most of it truly is highway. He's asking 8,900 for it. It has a few dings, a scratch up the side, but the interior is flawless. The engine has had regular oil changes, but it does need the timing belt and the 105K tune up AKA plugs, filter, etc. Does 8,900 sound like a good deal for this car?
Or should I try and get hiim to knock a bit more off. THanks for any advice.

Look up the Blue Book value online. The price sounds about right.

One of the first things I look at is impact damage. If it's been wrecked, I want a DEEP discount, if I want it at all. It's just too hard to restore a vehicle back to pre-wreck condition and it's too easy to make a mistake (and I'm not putting the blame on the body guys).

The private party value for that car (in my zip code) would be $10,800, but if you have to do the timing belt and other maintenance that is past due, it will cost you another $1000 at a dealership to have it done. Considering this, it seems like a fair price, but that doesn't mean the car should not be checked out for problems, before signing on the dotted line. Check the car out thoroughly, get a Carfax, whatever.

Thanks guys, no carfax needed, the guy had it since new, I drove him to go pick it up, no accidents whatsoever, still on the original brake pads literally it was 115,000 miles of all highway. The original tires were on it until 103,000. And my mom wouldn't beat the car up, she's in her 50's keeps it in her garage so it should be just fine. The thing still rides like new. But was looking to see if anyone knew of any potential problems. Trans seems to shift just fine, I do remember having to replace a battery in it like a year ago. So 4 years isn't too bad for a battery...

OH and I know for a fact it was in one impact accident, apparently a rogue turkey somehow managed to smash thru the windshiled. There were feathers all over the inside of the car. Next time ou see a butterball in the supermarket picture it hurtling thru the windshiled at 50 MPH. Other than that there is a scrape down the entire right side of the car from the front fender to the rear, which was result of turkey aftermath, he hit one of those posts that has the reflector on it. I was thinking of asking him to come down to 8,000 but wanted to see if you guys already thought it was a good price.
