Default What ohm subs??

I am going to be running a JL 500.1 amp for 3 JL W0's. My question is, what ohm W0's should i get to be getting the max our of the 500.1?? Options are 4ohm 8ohm and 12ohm single voice coils. Which ohmed subs would you get??? Thanks

I would say get 4-ohm, least resistence. However I don't recall if running them in parrallel or running a seperate set of wires to each makes a difference. One might keep the resistense the same while the other triples it.

does NOT matter what ohm subs you buy. w0's are all SVC's, and you can wire them in parallel to achieve any ohm level and the JL amp will handle it because it operates at any ohm level. thats a big feature on their amp. puts out the same rms power at all ohm levels to achieve highest SQ levels possible

between 1.5 and 4 ohms the 500.1 will put out 500 watts. Resistance in series is calculated as Rtotal = r1 + r2 + r3....... resistance in parallel is calculated as 1/Rtotal = 1/r1 + 1/r2 + 1/r3 ........

If you use the 4ohms in series you'll get a 12 ohm load(no), in parallel you'll get a 1.3 ohm load (not really happy).

If you use the 8ohm in series you'll get a 24 ohm load(not happening) and a 2.66 ohm load in parallel (we have a winner)

with the 12ohm you'll have a 4 ohm load in parallel (another winner)

recap: either the 8 or 12 ohm in parallel will work just fine.....See what the shop normally has more of and get that one (in case you have to warranty one out). Personally, I wouldn't go with the W0's. I'd rather have 2 W3's......

Thanks a lot or your help miahmose. thats the exact answer i was looking for!! By the way, the only reason why i am going with the w0's is cuz thats what the JL vantage box recommends. Otherwise i would definatly go with the w3's. Do you know if the w3's would fit in the JL Vantage box for the integra coupe??? Thanks

I think the w3's are a little too deep, and they would be slightly underpowered with three of them. You could always do a fiberglass enclosure but pending on who builds the box and how good they are the results can vary greatly. Your original plan is looking pretty good considering all the other options. Another nice thing about going the pre-fab route is that if you don't like it, it's easier to sell than a custom setup.
