Default B16A2...HIGH COMPRESSION N/A or LOW COMPRESSION W/TURBO

i have a 1994 del sol with a b16a2...i just sold another car (porsche 944) and now i have some cash for my del sol which already has an AEM intake, skunk2 exhaust and intake manifold, race headers which are 3 years old now, NGK iridiums...thats what i have installed so far.

i have a 8.5lb flywheel, 550cc injectors, AEM fuel rail and AEM cam gears...all here and ready for install

im ready to buy new cams, pistons, rods etc....i found a deal where i would get EAGLE rod's and JE pistons and rings for 750-800$ that offers a variety of compression ratios from 8.0 to 12.2

so before i buy my cams and pistons and such what should i do go for the 8.0 and turbo or go with the 12.2 and save myself 3k instead of buyin a turbo kit..and i am aware that a 12.2 may not run so great on pump gas

but i gotta admit there is nothin like hearing that turbo spool up

sorry bout the length...im a noob and this is my first honda build

i was raised on american muscle..so this is fairly new material to me..thanks and dont bash me too hard

dont even bother going high compression in a b16 block swap that bad boy out for a b20 bottom end and make some real torque or go turbo on the b16 . turbo will make more power either way but on the street all motor is king. and im running over 12.8 compression on 93 pump gas in my motor and its beautiful.

p.s. im running a b20 bottom end with b16 head fully built. 226whp@9000 rpms, 154 ft/lb.s

Turbo
the amount of money you spend to build a good all motor set up you'll get mid to high 200 range horsepower

build a turbo motor you will pass that no problem. hell stock gsr motors with just a turbo kit and tune are making 300 whp all day no issues.
to make more power on all motor you have to change parts and then go get a retune Vs turbo where all you have to do is turn the up your boost controller.

in oregon we only have 92 octane...sounds like a pretty sick N/A setup....too bad hondas dont have any torque...all the HP you want but i never see any good numbers for torque....

yea well torque numbers like 150 and up in a all motor honda are plenty they def. lack torque but dont be fooled by the small numbers. and also dont base your decision on trying to make 300 hp turbo compared to 200 all motor b/c a turbo power is alot dif than all motor. my 220+ all motor setup rocks 300 to 350 horse turbo cars all day on the street is just straight reliable power.

Boost that thing.

N/A B16s suck nuts. In the end of the day, a B16 is still a torqueless 1.6L. If you want to build an all-motor Honda, you need displacement.

Going turbo will mean you lose your AEM intake and the "race" header, though.

my friend has a B16 too....ill just sell the parts to him for cheap

im not looking for 400 hp....thats too much for street...too many tickets...this car is my daily driver and the occasional weekend warrior....but its not like im not used to having tons of power at my foot....
my 67' firebird (still have and its beautiful)...makes 900WHP.....that SOB is fast!!!..
sadly every time i put my foot into it feel my pocket get lighter

N/a is good, but its so much easier to push more out of a turbo. You can only go so far with a naturally aspirated 1.6 liter.

My B16B has no torque but then again my tranny nevers let me go below 6500 rpms! Its just a pain in the *** to drive on the freeway, I could live with it. Like people have told you already, boost vs n/a, boost will make more power but Im just a sucker for 250-70 horses at 9500rpms. BOOST FOR YOU! goodluck

I'd rather go with a turbo if this is for street or drag use, especially if (like me) your background is in domestic muscle. A NA 1.6 motor needs to rev like a sportbike to make decent power, and will have less low end torque (which can make it a real pain to drive in city traffic). I'd rather have a turbo and add torque instead of redline.

Also, I didn't see engine management / tuning on the list of plans... one other thing to add to your shopping list.

personally im building a N/a with comp ratio of 11.5:1 with nitrous, but a turbo build would be nice more power for less $. Eventually im gonna get tire of my setup and rip it apart for low comp pistons.......

...If i were to do it again i would go TURBO. .........just so i can have A inter- cooooooooolA'....lol
