IDLE HELP?
Hi Guys I have a problem with idle that I need help. Whenever I'm waiting at the red light, at times my car's idle will drop really low, at like 0.5 . A friend of mine told me something like I need to take out the idle and clean. Can someone give me some tip on that or perhaps some pictures of how to do it if i need to do it? thanks
Hmm, I am not sure what you mean when you say take the idle out and clean it, that does not make any sense. There is the IAC valve, the MAP sensor, those could be effecting your idle, does the car have any other problems or is it just idling low?
My car runs fine and it seems to me idle is the only problem. It was my friend who told me to clean the idle and I am unsure as well because I'm still learning about cars little by little thats why I post it up to ask if anyone might know what he meant or what I should do.
check for vacuum leaks, coolant leaks, FITV (the thing mounted on the bottom of the throttle body...Take it apart, clean it, and tighten the white screw inside.), IACV (the valve mounted on the intake manifold on the back....take it off, take it apart, and clean the crap out of it.)
Well there isn't one specific thing on the car called the idle, the idle is just the speed the engine rotates at while the car is not in motion. There are several things on the car that can control idle speed, a couple of them being your IACV and MAP sensor, the IAC should be located on the back of your intake manifold, and depending on your car, your MAP sensor could be located on the intake manifold or on the firewall, and its smaller than the IACV. Also you can adjust your idle somewhat with the idle screw on the intake manifold by the throttle body, and by moving the distributor timing
