Question about Over advance timing
motor is a B18c5, Jun3 cams, adjustable cam gears, 81.5mm USDM TypeR pistons. 70mm TB. Tuned last year.
After a nice car warm up last night, I proceed to set the timing of the car because it was running
.
then, for some reason. If i set the timing to 14 - 4 + 4, the car would stall.
Therefore, I had to set the timing to 23 degree to prevent it from stalling.
question is...
what would cause for a over advance timing like this.

are you sure you have everything lined up at TDC? this is the only factor on your timing. other than your dizzy. but you said you have adj. cam gears, so they prolly have white dashes on them? just for ***** and giggles. when you have it running and warmed up put the timing light up to your cam gears this will also show you if your cams are lined up correctly. and as far as your timing pretty close to the middle of your ear on your dizzy should be at 16*. if not you have something off on your timing somewere.

ok are you talking about your timing? or overheating problem? to different things here! no being off a tooth would not make your car run hot. but it does casue bent valves. your over heating problem is more than likely your water pump. did you put a new timing belt on? and not replace your water pump or what. how many miles does your motor have on it.
