Default Timing question

i think i might sound like an idiot... but am a little confused about advancing my timing. I borrowed a snap on timing gun from my friend and you can adjust the number on the gun from 0 to a big number. When I shine it at the timing mark, should i be at 0 on the gun? because i was reading previous posts and someone said something about 15 btc or something. can someone help me out? thanks for the help.

yeah you could point the gun w/ the gun set at 0 and you should see a white mark and that is exactly 15 degrees. if you advance the timing on the gun to 15 you should see a red mark. say for some reason you want to retard the timing to 13 degrees you set the timing gun to 13 degrees and move the distrubuter so that the red mark matches the grove. then it will be at 13 degrees. so it rocks to have a timing gun that you could advance the degree setting. gives the flexibility to set the timing in a degree other than 15. hope it was helpful.
