OBX lsd problem!!!
ok here's my problem. I had an OBX lsd installed in my 88 SI transmission. I bolted the tranny up to the motor, and slid in the drivers side axle just fine. When I went to slide in the passenger side axle it won't slide in the whole way. There's about a 1/4"-1/2" gap between where the axle and the transmission are supposed to come together on the passenger side. I pulled the axle back out and took off the lock ring and still have the same problem, it just wont slide in the whole way. I also took off the drivers side axle just to see if it would slide in on the passenger side and it wont slide in either, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank-you

It could be shimmed improperly in the case.
It could be shimmed improperly in the case.
Thought about that, but my mechanic told me there was actually a shim missing when he went to install it, so he put a shim in it and retorqued all the bolts and everything...
Hey i also have the same problem! I got a 88 si tranny with a obx i installed. My passenger side axle went in fine, but my drivers side would have like a 1/8 gap. Well i didnt want to take my tranny apart again so i tryed so many ways to put it in. I noticed the end on the axle where seal rides on would hit the obx lsd before it would go in the other 1/8 of an inch. I used an old wore out axle to check if this was the problem, so i took my grinder to it. Shaved about 1/8 off the axle where the seal rides on. This let the axle go in all the way like it should. Now my new axle, I am hoping a machine shop can do a better job then my grinder. I heard good things about obx too which is why i went for it. Also my tranny also had only one shim so i just put that one back in. Everything is new except the gears and shafts. Now my car is not running yet so from personal experince i dont know if obx is good or bad. Hope this helps.
Yea man that did help out, thanks. My friend mentioned that yesterday but I wasn't sure if any machine shop would be able to do it, any other input from anyone else???

Yea but don't grind off to much or it will eat your seal n tranny too probably. Like i said i have a new axle too so taking it to the machine shop sometime. They can do a better job on shaving it evenly all around.
Well my problem now is, there's two different options that it could be. I have the car running now but it still is dripping a very small amount of fluid from where the seal is, so it could be that I damaged the seal putting it in, it could be that the seals fine and I grinded to much of that lip off on the axle, and if I did grind to much down then how do I know how much to take off on the next axle, I've had this transmission on and off at least 2 or 3 times now because stuff keeps going wrong for me, it's very frustrating and I'm getting ready to give up and just get something else...
