Default I have exhaust questions...

I have a 97 Prelude SH and i have a greddy EVO2 catback and i was wondering how much horsepower it makes, and why it makes such a ricey sound. I went on youtube and listened to the other EVO2 exhausts on other preludes and they all sound the same, but mine sounds like a ricer. And, which is better, the Apex'i N1 Catback or the Greddy EVO2?
I may consider selling my EVO2 and getting an Apex'i N1 prefer the sound and look. My EVO2's exhaust tip is HUGE. Anyone want to help me?

It depends on the size of the pipe going from the cat to the tip and of course, the size of your muffler. Less back pressure will result in more flow from the headers to empty space. Turbo cars want less back pressure; n/a cars went more, esp. 4 cylinders.

I have 2.5" piping from the cat back with a resonated Magnaflow round muffler. It sounds a bit ricey from 4k rpm until vtec when it sounds badass.

as far as HP goes... it's hard to say. Depending on the mileage, maintenance intervals and how hard the engine has worked... the stock hp of the car is unattainable unless you know who has been driving it, their driving habits, etc.

My 98 base 5th gen has about 157k on it. It was equipped w/ a cai when purchased. I contacted the previous owner who had had it for 8 years and said it was in excellent condition when he bought it and he had performed standard maintenance on it.

With the mileage, which i was told is atleast 70% hwy, i assume a 10-20hp drop in the last 11 years. The intake may add 3-5 hp, the exhaust may add 5-10 hp. so at the crankshaft, I assume no worse than 190 hp, which may translate into approx 160 fwhp

Thing is... My car sounds ricey at all RPM's and when i let go of the gas it seems to be louder than when im at over 5000 rpm...
My car has a about 129k miles on it so its not as bad as some other preludes... When i bought the car, the car had the EVO2 and a AEM cold air intake on it... do you think new headers would make it sound less ricey and more beefy?
If i wanted to post a pic up of the exhaust and a video of the sound, could I do it on this site?

You do NOT want backpressure! I dont know why ppl say that.

Do you have a test pipe or the stock cat? I have HEARD that taking off the cat will make it sound raspy.

Also, if you dont have any resonators it will sound like crap. Im not sure what kind of muffler it is but if its a packed one the materialinside could be burnt up if its an old muffler.

add a 18" or 24" resonator and that will help.

also your cat will make a difference if its old/burnt up or not there it will be louder and therefore "more rice"

Just go for an Apexi GT Spec a really good exhaust system; I have a 94 Honda Prelude Si. In my car it doesn't sound ricey, it sounds really deep and loud.

Do you know if they even make a resonator for the EVO2?
If anyone finds one anyone wanna give me the link?
I hate the sound of my exhaust and i hate being called a ricer because of it.

not really, just get a good resonator about 18 to 24 inches long and that should do it.

just take your car to the local muffler shop and thell them you want at least a 18" resonator or a 24" if it will fit.

or diy.....

peek under the car, and find a straight section of the exhaust, measure it and order a resonator from jegs, summit, or another place. sawzall the section out where the resonator will go and clamp or weld that biatch in. just make sure you get the in/out sizes correct for easy slip on goodness and DONT CUT YOUR FINGERS OFF

i wouldnt get an N1 if i were you. i dont like mine at all, i just spent so much money on it a while ago that i cant justify buying a new one. just contact a company like KTeller and get some quality piping with a good quality resonator/muffler. also much cheaper.
