Default Welding jet hot coated material?

My current drag downpipe is jet hot coated up top, with a lighter coating down near the collector- I want to flair it out to 3", but am worried about welding on the jet hot coating as ive heard of issues with this- would I run into anything?

Or should I just get a simple U bolt and clamp the flair onto the downpipe to avoid welding all together? thanks!

If you want to weld it, you need to remove the coating both inside and outside.

It might, you would likely be better off using a sanding roll on a dremel IMO.

You are going to have a real hard time getting all the coating off if it was applied correctly, but it will all need to be removed. Especially if you plan to use a TIG, a MIG is less picky about the condition of the metal being welded.

I may just use a U bolt and clamp the pipe down- keep hearing horror stories on how hard it is to get a good puddle going
