Default register importer...

i have a 92 civic si converted rhd, dmv sent me to chp for vin inspection. i took my car to chp, i also took my original firewall vin along with my dash vin for proof just in case. After inspection the officer tells me hes not passing my car because my jdm cluster doesnt have a srs light(i had my old steering wheel with airbag at the time)hes not sure if airbag works or not. He said i have to see a register importer to bring the car up to U.S.safety standards he said since its converted its now a japanese car he also kept my vins. Has anyone ever been through this? Does anyone know where i can find a register importer? i live in los angeles ca and i cant find one near by, i need your help so i could register my car & get a chp vin stamp...THANKS!

I really can't help you on this, here you just register the car like any other. But what i'd like to know is why? I just don't understand the appeal of RHD. i mean i guess its more JDM, but thats like saying i'm more JDM cause i chew my gum on the right side of my mouth. Anyway i'm not trying to **** on you, i'm just legitimately curious, sorry to theadjack and good luck getting your car registered. You can add the airbag light to a JDM cluster btw.

that cop is dumb as [freak].. japan car and usdm car are way different in standards..if they did a crash test on a usdm car it would pass vs a japan car. only thing i can think of is since you converted it, you messed with the oem structure of it That does not make it a jdm car.. plus this is a first ive heard of that .. just put the usdm cluster back in and just go back to the station and have someone else look over the car.. You pretty much have everything to prove the car was converted. he's just giving you a hard time..
hit up HMO,Gspeed etc Any place you can think of that would import car ..Why did he keep the vin btw

he kept my vins because he said i might use it on another car. He also said im not getting a chp vin until a register importer gives the ok, what really sucks is that i have to go back to the same officer
