how long does it usually take for the rings to seat after a rebuild? thanx in advance!

 

i would drive a good 1k before jumpin on it and they should seat fine...ive heard some people say drive the way you would normally and dont think twice about it and ive heard anywhere from 500-2000 miles......i drove for 1k, did an oil change, than started to drive normally

 

but how do you know when they are seated? my car is smokin jus a lil bit. my mechanic told me it will smoke a lil bit until they seat. he also said it would consume some oil until they seat. he told me to run the oil thats in it for 800 miles.

 

im currently running a straight 30 weight motor oil that is non detergent. he said a non detergent oil will help the rings to seat and was good for the break in period. then after the 800 miles put whatever oil in it that i normally use.

 

If your mechanic did the work break it in like he tells you to.
