Default Oil Seal going bad?

Aight here is the deal, my car is smoking, blue oil smoke. Here are the symptoms.

- Intermittent, not every time but about 33% of the time when I come to a stop it'll start smoking.

- If I give it a rev while @ idle, the smoking seems to go away

- Randomly i'll smoke some if I boost hard on it, from lower RPM 2nd or 3rd gear punch.

Are these the signs of failing oil seals? I haven't noticed any real increace in spool time. Could I use some sort of oil addivetive to fix this or is it a straight up re-build job?

OR, could it be something else?

I noticed that the PCV valve appeared to be cracked, could this be blowby that i'm experiencing? I guess the valve could be stuck closed......Would running a catch can setup help this?

Uh oh. Did you rebuild the bottom end? Do a leakdown and compression before you go ahead and replace the valve seals. I thought that was my problem, but apparenty I just cracked my ringlands---doh!

EDIT* To add. After I did my L&C test it still came up with decent specs. I guess only when it is real hot or I boost for a good time it will smoke pretty bad.

Nope no bottom-end work.

Sorry dude not the valve seals. I had the head rebuilt about 7500 miles ago, those are still good. i was referring to the oil seals in the turbo.

A compression test gives me good specs across the board, I don't have a leak down tester tho.

<--- Who is crossing his fingers that it's blowby from a faulty PCV system

check if there are signs of oil on the turbo, feedline or return line, should be one of those. I use to have the same problem and found out my oil feed line is too big and solved the problem by putting a restrictor in the line.

I did oil notice on the turbo housing. It didn't start happening till just recently, after I removed the turbo. Perhaps I inadvertently lossened the line

IF u think its ur turbo's oil seal goin bad then u might wanna give ur i/c piping a check to see if there is oil in there. First ur lower then the upper. If there is then u could possibly have a oil seal. Im assuming that u dont have the valve cover vent into the i/c pipe. HTH

my shizznett had been doin the same thing.. so i switched over to 10w30 from 5w30 and it kinda solved the problem.. less smoking and less often.. another thing i still gotta take care of is my feed line size.. its fricken 1/4", i think i gotta put in a restrictor or go with a smaller ID for the feed line.. geez, turbos are a pain in the ***, but they sure kick *** as well..

I may try switching to a slightly heavier oil. I thought I had been running 10w30, but maybe I put 5w30 in it by accident. Still that shouldn't make the difference between smoking like a train and not smoking at all.....ya know.

I've got a 3-AN feed line for the turbo, which is the about the best size. I think the PCV system may be screwed up somehow, or the the fitting is leaking at the turbo....ugh I just don't feel like messing with it.
