Default thermostat temperatures?...

i recently replaced my stock thermostat w/ a 160 degree thermostat from jacksonracing.....my temp is still the same! it goes up to half way and stays there rock solid, but my question is, shouldnt it run COOLER with this thermostat? thanks in advance for the input.

Are you relying on the accuracy of the stock temp gauge? My stock temp gauge won't move, but in comparison my Autometer will read anywhere from 150-210*F.

ya im just going in relation to the 'stock reading' to what the new thermostat should have affected, im not exactly sure on between what degree to what degree the stock gauge begins and ends reading.....but should have bumped the needle down atleast a hair, oh well.

Yeah. My stock gauge starts to read/move at @125*F. Like I said, at it's "normal" position, it'll read anywhere from 150-210*F according to my Autometer.

Replacing the thermostat alone is not good enough. Yes, the coolant will start to circulate in the engine earlier but the coolant fan will not turn on to cool it until the preset temp, which is stock temp. You need to replace the fan switch as well to match the low temp thermostat.

True, but that is really only going to be noticable at low cruise speeds or at idle. There shouldn't be a need for fan cooling while the car is in motion. If there is, then there are issues with your radiator either being clogged or undersize.

Actually, you will notice it at any speed. I have done datalogging with a low temp thermostat, fan switch and higher pressure cap setup with Hondalogger. The temp is maintained at 178-180F even at WOT @7.5psi boost x 30+ times in third gear with speed around 95-96mph.

It's much easier to do tuning if the temp is constant and under control.
