Default Weird electrical happening...

1991 Accord auto.
Sunday, I was driving to the mall, started to drizzle... I hit the wipers and the speedo & tach went nuts for a second.
Get to the mall and the car dies as I pull into a parking spot. I tried to start it , it just turned over but wouldn't fire. I go in the mall for about 30 minutes, come out & it started fine.
The next morning, I'm driving to work and I noticed a headlight was out so I turn them off and back on and both lights came on.
After work, car started, ran for about 30 seconds, died and would not start again.
This morning, I put a new battery in. After work, car started fine so I headed home. It never died again but the gauges went nuts again for a second only once.
Once I got in my neighborhood, I turned on all the accessories (radio, A/C, headlights, hazards, wipers) trying to get it to do something and it acted all normal.


Anyone else have this problem or maybe help me figure out what it could be?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I had the alternator checked and it is fine.

Define "nuts"

If they hopped all around mine did that when my ignition switch was going bad.

Nuts: needles hopping up & down then returning to normal.

Just the speedo & tach...

Yeah mine was doing the similar.

You won't see the gas/temp go crazy because of how they are.

I would take a peek at the ignition switch and see how that goes. Especially if the alt is good.

I'm guessing it's getting hot or something...
Is there something that can be fixed or just replace it?

The speedo and tach in my 94 did that same thing when I was having ignition coil issues. My coil issues however were a bad ground. My car did the same random no ignition turnovers and it lunged and misfired when the gauges were tweaking. When the speedo and tach go crazy does the car cut in and out or jump at all?
TheMuffinMan has a good point with the ignition switch. When the car is operating down the road correctly try giggling the key in and out and twisting it to see if it instigates the issue.
