buying a used engine? paperwork? what should i get in order to prove its legally mine?
Im looking at buying a used motor from a gsr that was t-boned. The engine runs and is good working order. however... the seller pulled the engine and sold the shell of the car. So he no longer has the title only the motor. I have the name of the original owner, plus the VIN obviously off the motor. But i want do i need to be assured later on down the road it wont come back to haunt me? Im going to be trying to sell my car with this motor in it. I like to be upfront and honest with people, so i would like to tell a potential buyer that the motor isnt original.
I can check to make sure the car via VIN# isnt reported stolen or anything, but is there anything i can get from the seller to ensure something doesn't happen later on?

dont be worried about it...half of the engines in most peoples cars are stolen for all we know...its almost impossible to track down a stolen engine you have nothing to worry about either way...even if it was you didnt know, you just bought the motor you dont know what happened to the car so it falls on his lap not yours
Actually, it is very easy to see if a motor is stolen, I check all of mine.
To the OP, if it makes you feel better, I'd get a notarized bill of sale, with all of his info and the engine ID stuff on it.
