Default spring compressor

well i need a spring compressor, and i was thinking why not make one?

here is by idea - take 2 pieces of ready rod, 4 nuts 4 small lengths of pipe and 2 pieces of one inch flat Stock with a V notch cut in welded on each pipe

think this would be Strong enough? if you guys think it will be ill post up pictures on how i made it but i don't want to get hurt by doing it so im asking first

You can get them cheap, sometimes $30 at you local parts store, and it would be much safer and maybe cheaper to do it that way.

wow, are you serious? like drop springs on a honda civic or acura integra or some other car? cause you dont need a spring compressor for light cars that have spring rates of 80/120

Just shoot the spring into a box, you will be fine. I've done it before without removing my stock springs.. Saves lots of time just be careful haha

yeah we usually use metal trash cans and aim the nut into the metal can and use the allen wrench and turn it super slowly its kind of scary but i dont think it could be life threatening unless you point it at yourself or something.. but yeah you never know when its going to pop u just slowly turn it and stay clear.

it's the shock that usually pops out in my experience, (probably cause i step on the spring), anyhow i usually wrap the spring/shock in 2 towels like a burrito that way nothing pops out

impact gun is your friend, if not get a quality allen key, and a line wrench for the nut, spray some wd-40 on it and get to work

or you can take your stock parts off and take them to a shop, I'm sure any mechanic wont mind cracking the nuts off for you for a small price

no, your crappy old springs are just rusted to all hell.
soak em down and pray.
easier to just buy new shocks springs.
