NEED ADVICE! AXLE, Differential, something problem~!!~()!(!(~!
so i dropped my clutch at a high rpm and something popped and my car would not move. motor runs, clutch engages, and goes into every gear. initial thought was i snapped my axle, o yea, its a stock gsr tranny. so i got it home, took the wheels off and inspected it and the axles look normal, the boots were torn but they were always torn. and when i start the car and put it in gear my driver's side wheel spins, NOT the passenger side but im assuming thats cause i dont have lsd. soooooo, before i actually take the axles out to inspect it further, what else do u guys think it mite be? somebody suggested a broken differential....if that was the case what are symptoms of a broken diff? sorry if this thread seems pointless jsut tryin to get a feel for what could actually be fuked up and preparing for the worse.
Probably a broken diff pin, if both wheels are in the air they should both spin even without an LSD, i belive they will spin in different directions though. you might have gotten lucky and the axle just popped out of the transmission too.
well, i had my brother sit in the car and let off the clutch in first. thats wen the driver's side wheel started spinning not the passenger. when the car's turned on in neutral, both wheels dont spin. when the car's on the ground, it'll rev up but wont budge at all.
.......................... [freak], how do u tell if its a broken diff pin or not?

Haul the tranny out and open it up.

ugghhh i was afraid ud say that. just watched this very informative http://www.evans-tuning.com/vi....html
if in case its a broken axle, the axle normally breaks within the boot rite?? the shaft itself doesnt normally snap does it? im sooo hoping its an axle problem rite now

Axles normally break inside the boot, i think every one i ever saw break was in the outer CV joint, but regardless of which end broke at least the cup for inner cv joint should spin when you have car jacked up and in gear, if the the outer cv joint broke the entire axle should spin.

thanks man...but upon further investigation, not only did i blow out my driver's side axle but i broke the clutch somehow

It could have been worse, i know a lad that ripped the bolts that hold the driver side motor mount on out of the block of his D16A6 (I think, came in a '91 Si, too lazy to look up the block code right now) in a '95 CX, how he managed to do that is beyond me, but he did and put a nice dent in the hood where the engine flew up and hit it. he had just swapped it in so something tells me he used bolts that were too short or something. Anyway, could have been worse.
