Default oil problems after turbo install???

Alright so i just helped my buddy put a turbo setup on his 2000 si and now the oil light flickers at idle and goes away off idle. and also vtec does not engage (assuming cause of oil pressure).. Motor had no problems before install... anyone have this problem before??

did you tap into the oil pressure sensor for a oil feed line?

the oil feed is from the pressure sender. back of the block nest to the oil filter

well the oil light comes on when pressure falls below 10psi

so your friends oil pressure is dangerously low

if there isnt a leak, and your stock sender works (he should have an oil pressure gauge he can check for actual readings) then he prolly [freak]ed something up internally.

how many litres of oil are in the car?

actually the light comes on when there is less than 3-5psi......so ya if his light is flickering then something is seriously wrong.

try dumping the oil and filter. put a new filter and some thicker oil and see if it helps.

everything was operating normally before we put the turbo kit on.. after that right at start up it started so i dont think anything internally is messed up.. it could be the sender but would that cause vtec not to engage? also there is about 4 and 1/2 quarts of oil in it.

i put the stock Oil Pressure sending unit on a T fitting taped at the top of my turbo, in my oil feed line. Then i run a T on the back of my block with my oil pressure gauge sending unit, an my oil feed for my turbo.

I have no pressure on first start of the day, its a good way to test if your oil drain line flows good! my oil light is on for a sec on start up, then goes away once oil reaches my turbo.

oil pressure for car at idel should be about 18psi. Cold it will be like 40, some times 80.

Change your filter, check all your fittings, check your drain line, cause if it dose not have a smooth slope with no bends it will not drain fast enough an you can blow your oil pump, or when you start up in the mornings you might see alot of oil smoke cause it will push its way through your turbo seals. BEEN THERE BEFOR!

Get a gauge from a auto parts store bro, go from there.

aight thanks man. were workin on getting a gauge hooked up but the first one was junk and read 10 psi no matter what when the key is on. so he's gonna put a mechanical one on then were gonna check out the pressures.

How do you know vtec is not working? Did you put the turbo kit on and then take it for a spin?

Did you get a check light?

no check light.. on the dyno it didn't engage. because at first we thought it was an electrical problem with the sender cause when you jiggled the conection the light would turn off... there is a dent in the oil pan and i think it might be restricting the pickup... otherwise its gonna get a new pump cause its not making anypressure.

new oil pump and pan are in.. gret pressure now.. the dude we bought the turbo kit from cold welded the oil return fitting in the pan and it melted and cold weld was all over in the oil.. clogged the oil pickup.. prolly the filter, and messed up the pump.. but hopefully none made its way into any galleries or to the rest of the engine. but all in all its got oil pressure now and thanks for everyone's help.
