Default Engine help

I have a 91 civic ex 4 dr. Dropped a new engine and trans 3 years ago. Now in the engine there is a knocking sound, sounds like a rocker maybe. Any ideas would help me greatly. I want to fix it asap until that time I drive my Durango. So please help

I was thinking it is the rod bearing though, it would be easier for me to fix something like that, as a new engine is more costly. This engine only has about 20K miles on it and the rebuild was done at a honda dealership 3 years ago.

Take it back to that dealership and have them find out whats wrong with it. If its only got 20k on it and it was rebuilt by a honda dealership, it should still have some sort of warranty.

It depends on what it is though, you say in your first post its the rockers, then your second post the rod bearings. Both of those things make drastically different sounds. If its just the rockers thats an easy job to adjust them, but if its the rod bearings its much more involved to replace those.

Ok. Well I guess if it is the rocker like you said easy adjustment and then the rod bearing is some work, I am gonna have my friends fix it. I was just curious about the sound, what is the big difference in sound rocker vs rod bearing ?

Valve train noise is usually light tapping or clicking noise. For example Rockers tappets etc. Rod noises are Knocks and have more of a deep sound. If you load the engine and it still knocks, then you most likely have lower engine problems. If 'the honda place put in a welded crank than the crank's probably no good. But if the crank was machined and oversized bearings were put in that would be the best bet. You should find out what they did to rebuild the engine. Just putting rod bearings in may not correct the concern because the crank jouirnals may be out of round. Take it back to the honda store and NICELY discuss your concern. I work for a dealer, and people that come in calm and cool usually get what they want. But if your a screamer, than there will be problems. Most dealers only have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. But who knows see what they can do for you.

Ok well I did listen to the sound and it is a heavier sound, I was getting some input from people who though it may be the rod bearing. If the rocker makes a heavier sound, then thats what the engine is doing.

Remember deeper sounds are lower end engine noises. Which dealer did it? It says your location is Denver??

Well when you get it apart, check the wrist pins and see if they are worn out. I think those piston wrist pins are floating and not pressed. I'm not too entirely sure.

Lol Damn that's a commute.I drive from Old Englewood to aurora everyday Its about 20 miles each way. My Civic is real easy on the pocket. You gots to get that running! Shouldn't be that expensive though I wouldn't think.. Could always get a Junkyard motor and rebuild it then drop it in. Thats what I wanna do. My rings are worn out, so I just wanna go through the whole thing. The transmission also is vveerryy noisy. I wish I had the money to rebuild my whole car. You could check out Pull-N-Save in Aurora for a long block to build.

Yea well I am gonna tear it apart and see whats up with it, 15 miles each day is my drive in my durango. So the civic needs to get going, my dad works for a tow company and his boss has motors for honda and all so if I have to can resort to that

No it has run great, no problems, switched to synthetic oil, lower thermostat, and did engine flush to prevent sludge
