Default Shifting Problem

For some odd reason when i was driving along, my shift stick came out of 2nd and now 3rd gear won't work. I had this 95 civic for 5 years now and this is the first trouble. When i drive, 1st and 2nd works; 3rd doesn't, 4th and 5th is fine. So when i drive, i jump to gear 4.

Anyone know the problem of this; most likely its the transmission. But anything else? clutch, shift linkage, etc? any help will do. It's a d15 motor by the way.

Thanks

If it was the fork he'd most likely have trouble with 4th too, though it's still possible.

@ OP: It's most likely your syncros - '92-'00 civics are known for their 3rd gear syncros going out prematurely (or prematurely in terms of the rest of the engine/trans).

It's kinda known as the "honda 3rd gear grind" and 9 times out of 10 it's your syncros.

Rip that trans apart & rebuild time.

EDIT:
In the meantime to save wear on the syncros you might wanna double clutch into 3rd.

I agree!

Synchro...

I haven't run across this with my Hondas - but had the same problem with a Borg-Warner T10P tranny - cracked 3rd gear synchro...

Matter of fact, from a dead stand-still, I could put it in 3rd gear - slowly engage the clutch - and it would pop out of gear. LoL!

What does it mean to double clutch?

No, you're right!

You gotta do this with diesel trucks, etc - vehicles that don't have synchros.

Sometimes you gotta do this when your Honda tranny is cold, and it won't go into 1st gear during a slow roll, yada, yada, yada.

The thing is, if you keep trying to force it into 3rd gear - you really ARE gonna bend a fork!

I'd 'nurse' it until I had a chance to repair/replace the tranny, but that just me...

It's not necessarily the tranny...could just be the clutch. This happened to be recently, so I couldn't access any gears...
