00 SI gas mileage question
so i got my 100k service done, and the mechanic was talking to me and he asked me at waht RPM i shift at when switching gears. I told him I shift at about 2-2.5 when i try to save some gas, but he told me that the SI has the best gas mileage when shifting at 3.5-4k RPMs because our cars were made to shift at higher gears and it causes less stress to the engine when shifting a little before vtec hits. I asked him how he knew that, and he told me his friend did his paper to graduate from auto-school on peak gas mileage on the integra, and he did dyno tests and he found that gas mileage is indeed best when shifting at 3.5-4k rpm. so my question to you guys is, does this sound any correct to you?

I'm running a '99 Si B16A2 - and get 41 MPG give or take... so take this for what it's worth...
I basically agree with your mechanic. I never shift at 2000-2500 RPM unless I'm in a parking lot, bumper-to-bumper traffic or whatever.
3000-3500 RPM *seems* about right to me, all things considered...

i dont get 41 mpg in my 00 si but i shift at 2500 and i get 30-31 mpg on average and 27-28 mpg when i shifted 3500 and i wrote down each time i filled up and filled up exactly till it clicked so for mine i found shifting at 2500 was best for my car

Yes they do. A slow roll up to 3500 +/- rpm then shift gives me the best mpg with my EH2 B16A, 'bout 38 mpg using 93 oct. Slow acceleration is key for good mpg.

Heh!
Thank you!
Besides - you'd be roadkill if you shifted at 2500 RPM around here...

no kidding ur ecu wont read it as u tryin to accelerate fast and dump more fuel into the motor...if ur full throttle..shift...full throttle...shift even tho ur only goin up to 3 grand and shifting ur still gonan get shitty gas mileage
