I have a 1997 Civic DX Hatch with a JDM Integra Type R 5 lug conversion (36mm hubs).

If I were to need to replace a hub or wheel bearing in the future, from what cars can I order them from? I had a chance to compare the USDM Integra Type R Hub and wheel bearing, and they are too small.

I was actually thinking about installing the USDM ITR Hub and Bearing so I could use the 32mm axles, but it wouldnt fit (bearings too small and the hubs were different).

Again, its a 97 Civic DX Hatch. I was also contemplating about installing the USDM bearings and hub on my DX knuckles, but when i search for its compatibility, everyone had said I needed EX/Si knuckles.

Anyone?

 

99 CR-V is the exact same front hub as the JDM Type-R hub. 36mm and all.

 

I knew that!!!, but never put two and two together as far as replacement parts... THANKS! haha.

why would you want to do that?

 

I tried new hubs and new bearings, from a USDM ITR, they were smaller.

I basically wanted new wheel bearings since I had everything apart so I wouldnt have to worry about it later. Also, replacing an axle in the future would be easy as going to a local parts store and picking up B series axles.

 

This is a little bit of a thread jack.. but what about replacement axle's?? what vehicle would you order the axle's from with 36mm hubs??

 

Most logical answer is that you'd need to import JDM ITR parts.

This is one of the things that has scared me off from JDM ITR 5-lug conversions.... even though they're more plentiful and/or cheaper than CTR or USDM ITR.

 

Well, I have seen aftermarket 36mm axles on ebay with different horsepower ratings. So at least replacement axles wont be much on an issue, but if a knuckle ever gets bent or a hub/bearing needs to be replaced its either JDM replacement parts or possibly CRV parts.

 

hey i have jdm rear 5 lug and my bearing is bad ?? do i get a jdm rear type r hub ?? or can i make something else work

 

You'll need some Accord axles and Integra axles. Take the outer CVs, with the 36mm nut, off the Accord axles. Install them on to the Integra axles.

You can try 2wd CR-V axles, they may work.

 

5G prelude driver side axle is 100% bolt on.

5G prelude outer hub with integra/civic inner hub on passenger side. BUT....I believe 5G prelude SH axles may be 100% bolt on.

I did this on my GSR.

I used 5G prelude base model axles.

This is the car in question. It has stock ITR shocks/springs as well, for people who want to know what a regular Integra sits like with ITR suspension.



At first glance, the prelude and JDM ITR axles look identical on both sides.

I put them on the car and everything was all good. However...I started noticing a dribble of trans fluid on the garage floor. BULLSHIT!! I can't have dribbles. This isn't the NBA.

I looked closer at the passenger side axle...and sure enough, there was a little bit of it sticking out of the axle seal. Below is a comparison of the JDM ITR (top)
vs. Prelude (bottom).



The spline base on the prelude is about 1/8'' longer. You can see that my axle seal wasn't totally sitting the sealing portion of the axle.


So I just swapped the inner joint from the ITR...or any B series hydro axle onto the prelude axle. This, I believe, is easier than doing the outer joint.

I haven't tried Prelude SH axles. The SH axle may have a shorter spline like the B series axle, since the ATTS unit sits a bit further towards the passenger side.

The prelude 5G base model DRIVER side axles, however....are identical to the JDM 36mm ITR axles. 100% DIRECT bolt on. It's so bolt on that it's what Michael Bolton uses on his Integra.

The prelude axle does appear shorter in this picture...but I don't believe it actually is. I think it's the angle of the picture combined with the fact that it's a newer axle so the boots are scrunching it in more.

I did the swap like...4+ years ago....back when I was just a boy. And the axles have been on the car ever since...no problems. The car was pretty effing low after it got put on Tein RA's....and it went to the race track on 225's and WAY negative camber, jerky...and still no vibrations or issues.

 

so does that mean i can use crv hubs 2 do swap cheap?

 

You need to use the entire CRV knuckle, but yes. The CR-V/Prelude hubs are cheaper than USDM ITR hubs if you track the car and need to replace them regularly. The bearing is larger which, in theory, means it will last a bit longer.

 

so i could use front n rear hub n knuckle setup from a prelude?which years r best n what else suspension wise should i also use on swap?i want 5 lug setup n i think the prelude has bigger disk brakes
