How do you guys feel about Motec?
What exactly is motec capable of? I'm gonna be tuning the ecu myself this time instead of having someone else do it, and i'm not too experienced with tuning so ease of tuning is kinda important. How extensive is the datalogging? I'd need to monitor 3 different pressure sensors, egt, 2 diff flow sensors, and other usual stuff.
Can i tell it to maintain a certain afr for certain rpm ranges and just run it to redline a few times and it'l;l tune itself?? lol

Motec is not a system to learn on. If you had provided some information about your motor, we could probably recommend a better 1st time system. For example, Neptune is relatively easy to set up and even a beginner can build a base map that will have the motor fire up and idle just fine.

AEM is a better choice for you.
And yes, AEM has automapping.
With a universal harness, and only the most basic features for an M400 you will be in the 4500.00 range.

MoTeC is a great system and software capable of just about anything. If you have little to no tuning experience MoTeC is definately the wrong system to be learning on. What application/car is this for?

AEM all the way! Very cost effective as well...with a myriad of useful features.

Its for a 600cc f4i. I had to rip off the ITB's and make an intake manny for it.
Automapping features are great. I would probably preffer some automapping stuff. I'll also have access to a dyno.

f4i, as in a motor cycle?
We put a motec m4 on a turbo snow mobile. Needles to say it was fast as hell.
Motec is not a easy system to learn, even most well known tuners do not do motec, or charge a rediculous ammount to tune it. Its not so much tuning that is hard, but wiring it up, calibrating everything can be time consuming.

Let me ask you this: can you build a VE table? Do you know how to set coil dwell? Or injector offset? Battery offset?
Get the AEM. It plugs in with almost no wiring changes. It has base maps. It's cheaper. It's user friendly.
Automapping sucks by the way. It makes a mess of your fuel map. It adjusts one particular cell and ignores neighboring cells. There are several ways I recommend tuning fuel. One is to make passes on a dyno and make changes to groups of cells. Get it into the neighborhood. Then make changes according to datalogs. Then you can have a friend drive it around on the street while you tune it. The last two strategies require a wideband O2.
Fuel is only half the battle. There's also ignition. And if it's a daily driver you can spend months on the idle. Not to mention transient fuel and sensor based fuel trims. Then there's start up.

Lol, sorry i had to. I would just get an Aem stand alone. Its cheaper and does the job, IMO, just as well as any other stand alone on the market.

yes the f4i is a motorcycle. Do you guys still reccomend AEM now knowing that the f4i is a motorcycle?? People seem to be assuming this is a car with a passenger seat. Its a motorcycle engine, and it will only see racing. No daily driving, but i will still need a good tune for neutral power throttle positions and the like.
I'd prolly be working with a tuner also. so the consensis is still aem??
