the cars a fully built b16 with a gt30r turbo.. the valve cover gasket was leaking because it was bad. i bought a new one today with 8 new garments, 4 seals for the plugs and the gasket. once installed the car started smoking really bad when i drove it and still smoking at idle... i noticed oil under the exhaust side of the turbo under the car, and a little oil around the waste gate... i think since putting in the new gasket added more pressure therefore blowing out the next weakest thing, maybe seals in the turbo.. or is it a coincidence and for some reason its a cracked ring... I'm doing a compression test tomorrow.. any suggestions?!?!?!?.. I've had nothing but problems with this car

 

check your hot pipe, down pipe, and exhaust. if there's excessive oil, i would say it's a great possibility it can be your turbo seals. what's the turbo's condition?

 

um it seems fine i didn't really go into any load once i saw all the smoke.. is that a expensive fix.. would i have to get it retuned??? i haven't checked any of the pipes yet but i will... but why would there be oil around the wastegate?? that sounds like it would be from the motor right>

 

anyone else have any suggetions.. the turbo isn't that old

 

what color is the smoke?

 

the smokes blue, so its definitely oil burning. i thought it was some how coming out of the header.. so i pulled it off and no oil is coming out from there.. so its gotta be something in the turbo.. i can't see how the turbo is bad because it is only a year old and its only got like 10,000 miles on it, and i figured the gt series are pretty solid.. maybe there is too much oil getting into the turbo because its spitting oil back into the header..

 

blue smoke is an obvious indication for seals

 

yeah that would be the obvious thing.. but i can't see it being bad that quick... i have to check the return line to see if its kinked or it got over tightened some how... thanks for the help

the hot side of the turbo is covered in oil, its all goin out the down pipe, so I'm assuming its the turbo seals maybe or something. which is complete bull sh*t because its practically brand new.. turbo will be out later on today

 

turbo is out.. visually it looks completely fine. intercooler has oil in it. i just want to make sure its the seals.. is there anyway to test it before i go send it out the get rebuilt??
