d16y7 block with d16y8 head in a crx..HELP!!!
ok so my boy has a 91 crx hf model and wants to swap his engine.
still gonna be a single but now with vtec
he has a d16y7 block with a d16y8 head
and think he's gonna stay with his cable tranny
he has a hydro but will probley swap that later
but for now what else does he need like the engine
harness ecu and wat we gonna need for the vtec to kick in
and if you know what the head torque specifications are to torque the
head down that would be great to
thanks n e thing will help
oh and he has the y8 mani to that he's gonna use
just to throw it in there thanks again

you use the stock engine harness. then your gona want to convert it to obd1 and run a p28. when you get the jumper harness it will tell you how to wire vtec to it.
Yes the stock HF engine harness will go onto the y7/y8 combo you are talking about with ease. you will have to do a few small modifications to it though... The thermo switch (turns rad fan on and off with coolant temp) is in a different position on the HF harness. The hf has this thermo switch on the back of the block, on the newer motors it's on the thermostat housing (where lower radiator hose attatches to engine). So this little electrical plug will need to be cut, extend wires so they will reach to new location. Really simple. Also there is no air intake temp sensor in the intake manifold of the y8, so you won't have anywhere for that plug on your harness to plug into. The fix for this is to take the old HF iat sensor (far right side of intake manifold) out of the hf manifold and mount it somewhere in your air intake pipe. Then cut and extend the wires for the iat so they reach its new location. again, pretty simple. Last thing is your distributor. Since it's a y8 head, get a y8 distributor. Even though you will be running an obd1 ecu (p28) the y8 (obd2) distributor will work fine. You will just have to match up the similar wire colors from the old dist. plug to the new one. except the fat white wire on the HF harness will now go to the green/yellow wire on the new distributor. Other than that you will just have to run a few wires from the ecu to the engine bay for vtec wiring, this will be covered in the instructions that come with your obd-0 to obd-1 jumper. http://www.rywire.com There's a reason so many people reccomend them. Might as well buy a new 4-wire o2 sensor from them at the same time. Have fun
