Did you slide the tie rod all the way to the right? And then pull the rack out from the right? IIRC you also need to rotate it some, to get the steering pinion to clear.
Did you disconnect the shift rod?

Inside the car under the steering wheel. Remove the plastic covering it and disconnect the little nut holder thingy.

yeah, and turning the rack (i.e. steering wheel) all the way to one side will make it easier to get out

You should see the splined shaft of the rack sticking up through the floor. Just undo the clamp that holds the steering column linkage to that shaft.

Yes, and turn the steering wheel or just push one end of the rack in, so it's at its shortest length, not fully extended. And slide it out towards the pass. side, while twisting and rotating it. Be careful not to damage or bend the tie rods, unless you're putting new ones in. Did you get new boots for the end cap things?

HTH

Glad I could help. I remember me and buddy having a bitch of time with mine. It took the 2 of us something like 2-3 hours do get it R & R'd.

Do get new boots. You don't want to have to ever do it again, right?
And while you're at it, and can afford it, get new tie rods too.

Reinstallation? The opposite of taking it out. LOL Just go slow and take your time. Make sure your steering wheel is straight when you reattach the linkage, and you MUST get an alignment ASAP afterwards or your steering will be off center, and your tires may wear funny.

Should be.
But, have a friend outside the car, looking at the front wheels, tell you when both wheels are straight, and see if it lines up perfectly with your paint mark, though. Just to be safe.
