i want to adjust my steering rack because i've noticed that my steering has a little play. my tie rods and rack ends are ok, so i dont think thats the problem. i was taking a look from underneath the car, things look very tight. is it possible to adjust it without lowering the subframe and steering rack?

yes, it is possible to adjust, but you will need the tool or fab up your own. i used a pair of plyers, but it wasn't that easy. also, make sure you do not tighten it too much, as you will wear the rack out faster.

tnx for the feedback did adjusting the steering rack help in your case? i'm having trouble figuring out how to turn that nut by just 20 degrees ( helms spec )

well, i have adjusted rack and steering boxes for years. i used to work at a junkyard and had a stint in the parts department and sold racks and steering boxes on a daily basis. imho, the procedure is the same whether you have a 2000 integra or a 1977 c60 box truck.
i adjust the center bolt until resistance is felt. essentially, i turn it until it becomes difficult to turn, then back off a little. then toghten the outer locknut. this will reduce most of the off center play in the steering wheel. if there is still play, the rack is shot.
